I have seen a Redrow property that I have my eye on, I am not planning on reserving yet as I am still saving up my deposit. Can anyone tell me if they have experience of purchasing from Redrow? All comments, good and bad are welcome.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I don`t think it matters which builder you buy from because they ALL use sub contractors to do the work.
Definition of a subbie (bang it up as quick as you can, take the money and run)
All the builders are supposed to fix any issues arising for the first two years and then the NHBC takes over `til year ten.
The NHBC ten year guarantee is really an insurance policy that YOU pay for and only covers MAJOR work that may need doing.
New builds have what they call in the trade "snags".
In other words instead of doing the job correctly in the first place (subbies) the snags have to be put right later on, BUT not by the subbies who made an a*se of it in the first place because they are long gone with their money.
So when you get the keys to your new home, you have to make a "snagging list" of things that you find wrong but of course the builder will argue that most of the things on your list is of an "acceptable standard"and will try to dodge out of doing it.
So if you put 50 items on your list (50 is by no means high)expect to get 25 fixed.
If I haven`t put you off so far,the only other comment I will add is whatever the asking price is,knock 25% off and offer it.0 -
Please don't touch new builds as alared said they are cheap and nasty and certainly not worth the money.....or the pain you will go through trying to get stuffed fixed
Also it will be like living in an cardboard box......when you go veiw get your fella to go stand up stairs and make a noise and you'll be able to hear it like he's next to you.........cheap and nasty at a HIGH price
Stay well clearIf you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly
I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right0 -
One thing I dislike about some people who use these boards.
They ask a question and others take the time and trouble to answer, but they then fail to even acknowledge the effort made.
Sometimes I wonder why we bother!0 -
* Purchased brand new Redrow home 8/9 years ago. Mid-Bucks.
* Hundreds of MAJOR problems - No kitchen installed on completion date, gas fire leaning against wall, NOT fitted as you'd expect it to be.
* Some residents were even put up in hotels due to bad plumbing & leaks
* Forced to storm Chief Exec of the UK Head Office
* I contacted BBC Watchdog / Jeremy Vine & The Times
* Will never buy Redrow newbuild again...once they have your money they see your home as your problem.0 -

I bought a Redrow home 5 years ago. There were a lot of snagging issues but they came and sorted them all out and even came back recently to fix a piece of guttering that had come undone. One of the managers even boasted how our plastering had been done in the dark - we believed him as the work was shoddy but they redid it again.
We also had issues with the kitchen and the doors but Redrow organsied for the manufacturers to come and have a look at the defects and they sorted it at no extra charge.
When we looked at other new builds, it was made clear to us that they wouldn't come and put right what they saw as minor points which included shrinkage cracks.
As pointed out the question is probably whether you should be buying a new build or whether a more solid house would be a better option.

Well don't bother then. There is nothing in the rules to say that we have to thank each and every person who responds to a post. In addition my question was specific to Redrow, and your response was not. So no I do not feel the need to thank you.0 -

What was the final outcome, were all of your problems resolved, did this happen within a reasonable time and what was the customer service like? I have a feeling I am not going to like the answer...0 -
