  • I found Liv. Vic. a better choice, after some research. Saga's terms and conditions didn't meet my requirements and they were dearer. They also continue to send unsolicited mail some years after I enquired.
  • We had Saga car insurance for two years before we came to live in Spain.

Their customer service was absolutely terrific and they were one of the few companies that would still cover you if you were out of the country for over three months (important to us at the time).

We never had to claim, thank goodness, but going on their professionalism in other areas I have no doubt they would be excellent.

We also have both car & home insurance with them , when the re-newals come in I always get other quotes and they match the lowest quotes as long as they are like for like. I can't remember how much my car insurance was reduced by but the home insurance that I re-newed last month had £72 knocked off to match my other quote.
  • Hi,
Try the Saga website for an online quote, I did and it was approximately 50% cheaper than by phone and if driving abroad, there are virtually no restrictions and no length of stay constraints. I also now have my home insurance with them.
    Good luck
  • I also have their home/car insurance and find them very good, had to make a claim ny first in 43 years they were excellant. I have always found their car insurance to be competitive, someone mentioned Liverpool and Victoria I used to be with them now find them to be expensive. I always shop around everyyear, Saga has always stayed within the 3 lowest quotes.

  • My Mum was insured with Saga and did not have a good experience with them when she had an accident (not her fault). They wanted to write the car off and offered a pittance for it. When I asked them what category write off it was, their attitude changed, we got the car back off them and had it repaired and got a new MOT etc and it's still going strong 3 years later.

we may go for saga insurance reading about the good experiences that people have had with them

We have barclays home insurance with emergency cover and three weeks ago a central heating pipe connection burst under the lounge floor, which is above the kitchen. We first saw it because of damp patches on the ceiling below. Let me just say that the whole eperience was horrific as we had to move furniture, roll back the carpet and try to arrange floor access before a barclays `emergency` plumber would come to the house. A really horrible experience and I will never go with barclays house insurance again. They started badly by keeping me on hold for 40 minutes while sending me from department to department and I ended up getting no help whatsoever from barclays, not even a follow up call and the plumber went home after a phone call from his van, because we had not managed to get access

We have my wifes car insured in my name with Saga which is quite straight forward. Recently I opted out of my company car scheme and it's involved moving her car to a new policy held in her name as well as putting my new car on the original policy AND adding our 25 year old son. Not only did they come up with a very competetive price but the way I was dealt with was superb. The tele sales person gave me not only her full name but also her extension number so if I wanted to make any changes or had any questions i could go straight to her. What a pleasant change from the usual off shore based operation. I have not had to make a claim but based on current experience I 100% would recommend them.
  • thank you all -for the replies!we saved lots of money by switching to saga.the old insurance was double! definetly the cheapest.
it was really easy to sign up and the letter arrived the next day.
