That is so frutrating, Mike - I hate people who are irrational like that - and they've got power over you  Any chance if you'd called it "nicotine replacement therapy"?

its just purely ignorance. I guess some people will just assume that because it looks like a cigarette then its as bad as a cigarette and they dont want to be confused by the facts.
  • I just ordered a starter kit from getecig.com and I'm not sure if it is one of the better brands. It is a super cigarette. It was the cheapest I could find.

$60 - US, Canadian, Australian??? If US$, it doesn't seem particularly cheap. The Super (full name Super Mini) is used by many e-ciggers - it doesn't give as much "vape" as the Mini (when the Mini deigns to properly!) but I believe the batteries last longer. It's also popular for being smaller and lighter than the Mini.

I would think it's a good starting point, please come back and let us know how you get on - or better still, come and join this e-cig group where I know there are other Super-vapers to gee you on and/or offer advice :)

For those of you who are "struggling" with the e-cig - you might want/need to look at in a different way. It isn't a smoking cessation device - it isn't sold as one, there have been (AFAIK) no trials on it as one - it is simply a different way of receiving nicotine. It is probably healthier because there is no tar or many of the other dangerous chemicals inhaled with a normal cigarette.

I bought my first e-cig in December last year. Since then I have not quit smoking. I have, however, reduced my smoking of rollies from around 40 to 50 per day to anything between 19 and 0 per day - I've kept a diary :).

I have spent a fortune on e-cig devices and "juice" but still haven't completely quit rollies. However, I feel healthier; the stains on my teeth are nearly gone; my home rarely smells of smoke (except on the days I smoke 19!); I have stopped worrying about burning holes in my new carpet and, most importantly, I see quitting as a real possibility.

If you read the e-cig forum you will find people who managed to quit on the first day they received their e-cig. You will find others like me who haven't quit yet. You will find some who spent quite a bit of money finding their perfect e-cig but have now quit. You will find some who have absolutely no intention of quitting but still like being able to "smoke" in public places.

I'm a fan of the e-cig because I feel healthier - my 40+ per day were definitely killing me. I'm sure that the rollies I still smoke are killing me, but I don't feel it quite so immediately. The fact that I have had more than one day in the past three months when I have smoked absolutely no tobacco cigarettes is amazing to me. The only time I have ever done that is more than ten years ago when I used the patch to try to quit. I managed three weeks but craved a cigarette every single day. On the days I have no cigs using e-cig I simply don't want a cigarette. I'm not fighting anything - I just don't want to smoke. I'm hoping I'll have more of those days.

The problem I have with all the smoking cessation devices currently on the market in the UK is that they are "all or nothing" - you have to quit on day one. The thing I love about the e-cig is, from my experience, it's "try it and see what happens".

I can tell you from experience that on the days I smoke no cigarettes and just use the e-cig I am not craving a "real" cigarette - I simply don't want one. In my case, that experience isn't happening consistently so I am still smoking. However, I suffer from depression/anxiety disorder/other stuff which is probably a contributory factor.

Anyway, if you are using an e-cig then good for you. I hope you find it as positive as I have, even if you haven't quit yet.

  • I've not done the glycerine thing so its not that... Just blinding flash headaches. Seem to have them shortly after having a 'vapour' - but stopped them for a week, did have a few other nasty symptoms too. Felt fine as soon as stopped and can't seem to get back into it again........ I was so happy to start off with.

    bit down now.

I was the same - bit like an 'ice cream' headache! I got it when I first started using it but put it down to getting used to the nicotine levels - i think i was drawing on it too much and taking in too much too quickly. I also got a sore throat and was coughing up 'yuk' for a short while...the coughing up I put down to getting off the real fags and clearing out the lungs. Still using mine now since start of January and its great - but finding im using it less and less - the 'smoking break' habit is naturally gone because I can vape away in the office. Id actually been working for 4hrs solid the other day and realised I hadn't used it - puffed on it once and put it away not to be used again that day..! The pub is where im using it most, but forgot to take it out the other night and didnt really miss it. My close friends and family were very sceptical that it would work....however I now have a very happy wife and children who are overjoyed that I havent taken up the real thing again (kids dont see me vaping though cos its just as bad for the young ones to see me vaping as much as smoking - but thats my opinion) I would really love to see some clinical trials to get these devices onto the market or prescription as nicotine replacement therapy. I know that nicotine isnt good and Im going to assume that sucking vapourised glycerol with flavourings into the lungs isnt as good as nothing at all....but hey walking down the high street in the big city breathing in all that carbon monixide from car exhausts isnt brilliant either...I live in the country so its all balanced out!! Keep trying it will be worth it...

Just one question, does vaping leaving a smell on your breath, or is breath smell only down to the other stuff in normal fags?
