No linked account here either. ISA funded with money transferred in from another ISA.
And given that I delete anything that purports to be from a bank (funny how many emails I get from banks I'm not with, innit) how will we know the genuine article from a phishing email?
Yes I thought that too. How can we be sure?0 -
So do you think those of us without linked accounts should not worry and just wait, or should we attempt to fill out and send off the PDF form so that we do have a ''linked'' account?0

The form sets up a direct debit to icesave. I would just wait and see what happens rather than filling in the form.

I used to have a linked account but just checked my current account and Icesave/Landsbanki no longer appears in my linked accounts list. I suppose this is because when I tried to withdraw the full balance from Icesave on 6th October the account was closed. Even though an account with the same number and balance re-appeared (showing as opened on the 9th October) the link must have been deleted. Has anyone else found this?0

By reading what the e-mail says, then going off and verifying that what it says makes sense independently (announced on FSCS web site, on here, etc). If it tells you to go to a web site, type that address directly into your web browser rather than clicking any links in the e-mail.0 -

This is a huge worry and I can imagine there will be plenty of [strike]scum[/strike] scam artists looking to cash in on this fiasco, therefore the easiest way around this will be to allow us access to our money via Icesave website. The infrastructure all still exists and we can still log in to the accounts ok so it just needs someone to sort out all the background stuff in the same way ING did with the KE accounts

I would not worry TBH, they will sort you out, I imagine that those without a linked account will be given an opportunity to create one or they may offer an alternative method of payment, they won't forget you.0 -

Thats a very good point. The should go the route paypal does with communication and make sure some personally identifyable information only they could know is in the email. However that doesn't stop somebody sending a phishing email to someone who doesn't know that it should have personally identifyable info in it.
Perhaps it would be better if the statement said people should expect an email with information only icesave would know about you in it.0 -
I find that one of the best ways of checking if an email is genuine is not to open but select properties then details then select message source, that way will give a more correct indication of where the message came from rather the possible bogus one displayed on the message itself. This is a huge worry and I can imagine there will be plenty of [strike]scum[/strike] scam artists looking to cash in on this fiasco,

.....I don't know about you but I just don't know how the fixed term accounts are going to be sorted. When the fscs e mail arrives are some people just going to ignore it and leave it till the term ends in 1/2/3 years time with the hope of drawing the money out then? A bit risky if the account is still under the Icesave brand. How are they going to administer it? There were 300k savers at Icesave, say half fixed term and half opt to leave the money in...thats 75k accounts. Is there going to be some little chap at the fscs marking of the dates when the term ends??0
