  • I was just looking for some patterns to buy for my wife and came across cafeknit.com not all for free, but some free patterns from some knit designers.

    Hope this helps

I'd be grateful for any help in finding a knitting pattern for a simple cardigan. There's a picture of one I really like called "Cara’s Knitted Cardigan" but I can't see where to get the pattern. It's a long-sleeved cardigan with a v-neck and pockets.
    Can anyone help?

I can't recommend Ravelry highly enough either, they have links to hundreds of downloadable free patterns. They have loads of brilliant groups to join too from Harry Potter, Doctor Who, Johnny Depp, you name it, there's a group for it. If not, start one, I did but I'm not telling you what it is;-))

Oh, go on! I am all agog to know.

Somebody I know showed me a picture of a knitted (or crocheted) tie that looked like the tentacles of an octopus - complete with suckers!! Any idea where I could get such a pattern?

All this makes me want to get my needles out again, I haven't done any knitting for years.

This is a wonderful find, thanks to all who submitted links as I love knitting. Sadly, the cost of balls of wool have outweighed the ready made jumpers now but if anyone has a cheap wool source, I'd love to know. knitting has recently been recommended for depression sufferers and also hyperactivity can be channelled with knitting.

try charity shops, they often have balls of wool, sometimes a whole pack (8 or 12 balls), honestly I've got really lucky sometimes! Or you could put a want ad in your local Freegle group, lots of people have odd balls (of wool!), or perhaps their mum has passed on and left loads of craft things. Worth asking!

Hi there - I'm knitting a v-neck cardigan with pockets at the moment, not the one you mention, but might be a good alternative? It was a free pattern from Rowan, although I've substituted the yarn and it seems to be working fine.
I'll see if I can send it to you by PM if you like?

  • Thanks for this - it's wonderful! I'll be using this site A LOT!!!

Ravelry.com is also great, BUT a lot of the patterns on Ravelry use American yarn-thickness descriptions, e.g. fingering, sport weight, etc. instead of Chunky, Double Knit, Four-ply.

I found the best way to work out what yarn corresponds to English yarns is by looking at how many metres there are per ball of yarn.

    Happy Knitting :)
  • Ah MSE is such a wonderful site. I have made it my mission to start knitting and was just looking up free patterns and I stumbled upon this link :D I get that it's not been written in since September but WOWSERS it has made my night. TY :D
