I can't recommend Ravelry highly enough either, they have links to hundreds of downloadable free patterns. They have loads of brilliant groups to join too from Harry Potter, Doctor Who, Johnny Depp, you name it, there's a group for it. If not, start one, I did but I'm not telling you what it is;-))

thanks for all the above ,ive had an enjoyable night searching through all the patterns as ive recently started knitting again after a break of about 12 years.

Thanks everybody. I haven't done any knitting for years and years either. I have cut and pasted all the web links copied them into word and saved in a folder for future use.

You could do as the did in years gone by and get an old jumper, unpick it and re knit the wool....jumble sales are still a good source of cheap clothing....went to one the other day and all clothing was 10p and got a 1950s kidney shaped side table for 50p!!!
