Hi
Sorry for the long winded title, and i'm not sure if this is the correct thread to put this in either...
I've just read an email that basically says that "an attempt to access my online account was made from this xxxxx ip address today apparantly it doesnt correspond with my ip address. I havent tried to see my account online today.
It then gives my postal address, and asks me to click through to confirm my adress or change it online (not sure if they're on about ip/postal)
Not sure what to do - not sure if its a hoax, or a dodgy link. Not sure what my ip adress is. If i dont respond by 16th the account will get suspended and a new access code will be sent through the post.
Thanks

forwarded the email on - it just didn't sound right - no mention of HBoS etc - just "halifax"0 -
This is worrying, because you say the email you received had your postal address in it.
Random phishing attacks do not contain any specific data: they just get bulk-mailed to millions of email addresses. The fact that this one contains data particular to you suggests that you are being targeted more specifically. Be wary for a while. But don't get paranoid - possibly someone has obtained a list of Halifax customers and is sending it to all of them.
Anyway, never click a link you don't explicitly trust (in either a web page or an email) because where it takes you has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the text you see. Always create your own trustable links in your Favourites.0
