We all know that you're not going to need it for a house deposit until you are sure that every last drop has been squeezed out of the house price crash
Which won't be any time this year.
Just as well, eh?
It would be the ultimate irony if I can't actually take advantage of the property crash, having been one of the few to predict it all these years...0 -

If you think the situation is analogous and by implication the Icelandic people should be sent to jail for ten years you are more of a fool than I thought. As I have already said the situation is more analagous to the situation of someone having difficulty in repaying their mortgage. Brown means "illegal" in the civil not criminal sense I expect.
You really need to separate the Icelandic people from their govt on this one, I know I would not like to be held personally responsible for the shenahigans of Blair and Brown.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
Lets face it we are being f****d around and there is not a thing we can do about it, and as for the half wits who state that putting money into bank gives them free licence to do with it what the please, what?? including go bankrupt?? rubbish!! If thats the case why do you have money in a bank?
Its a safe place for our money, that is why it is regulated. But the regulators have failed us.
I am not happy, all this feel sorry for the poor icelandic people??? their money has been guaranteed by their government and it is us they are taking advantage of.
I say cut to the chase, and start selling their UK assets NOW!! they should be bending over backwards to help us get our money back just to show the world they can be trusted. We are doing our best to help them by offering a loan..
They are doing a good job of contributing to their own people demise.0 -
Wow! deep despair [/reaches for hanky]baby_boomer wrote: »Yes, that's how bad it is. Iceland is likely to be ruined for at least two generations.
i will show some genuine concern, but ONLY after UK savers and taxpayers have been recompensed in FULL !

What about the people who have deposited over the 35k covered by the guarantee what word do you have for them?'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. That annoyed me and others too..
Everytime Haarde appeared on TV during that first week he emphasised over and over that all the banks were fully operational for domestic customers.
no word at all for all the foreign investors/savers
Hardly helpul to us Brits..
ps Stevie, it's 50k, not 35k that's covered.0 -
BBC coverage is out. The only real addition is the quote that says "talks will be continued in the very near future".
Not much to cling to, but take what you can, eh? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7687683.stm0
