After 4 working days, or whatver your bank claim is the normal clearing time, phone the bank and get them to confirm on their recorded phone line that the cheque is clear totally. Usually they will just confirm a cheque is cleared for funds, which is not the same as cleared against fraud.
The correct phrase is “given value.” See When has a cheque cleared?

get the to write there cheque gaurentee card number and expirey date on the rear as it will then have to be honoured by the bank regardless if it bounces or not
That’s not going to work. How will you know that the number they write is correct? Also, the card details have to be written in the hand of the person receiving the cheque. If you’ve ever seen a cheque taken in a supermarket, the cashier writes the number on the back, even though the till has already printed it on the back.

don't touch it with a bargepole

and specify in your future auctions that you ONLY accept paypal

    and

that you ONLY send to the address paypal gives you.

Too many scumbags out there wanting to rip us honest folks off

Play along with it, but send the police rather than the phone to the new address!

I have a different delivery address to my paypal one - I'm a student and have been living in various rented places for years. I don't trust future residents to forward things on and also getting things changed every 6 months is a pain, so I still use my parents' address for all official documentation. My 'official' paypal address isn't where I live but I haven't had any problems getting things delivered to where I am now..... This may be a slightly different situation, but there is a chance it's just a new ebayer who's a bit slow?!
