I would wait for the cheque to clear totally. My bank (lloyds tsb) told me a cheque takes 10 days to do that.
  • as long as its not for nigeria.....heard of big scams there....avoid....
  • My son just sold a mobile on ebay, the person who bought it had no feedback, I told him to be very wary, so when the paypal confirmation of payment came through, he checked it very carefully part of it said "Paypal Servise" otherwise is was perfect with paypal logos etc., He asked my opinion and I advised him to contact paypal and Ebay, it turned out to be fraud after all, such a good job, it was me watching the item finish and notice that it was a new buyer with no feedback, I feel sure that my son being inexperienced would have sent the goods after seeing the fake paypal confirmation. Just wanted to share that one with you.
Just be very wary. x :xmassmile x

also, if you have the imei, you can report it stolen if is a fraud cheque.

you may not have the money, but at least the phone they "stole" off you won't work either!

Why do these type of scams only seem to happen with mobile phones?

Sorry for the confusion, this was of course the first alert to the fact that something was wrong, and yes he did check his paypal account, and there was no payment, but who knows what an inexperienced person would do, I'm just glad that they made the spelling mistake and that my son is not dyslexic, otherwise he may not have spotted it, he is a trusting soul and possibly would have sent the phone on the strength of the email, it certainly looked plausable. :xmassign:
