Oh Iam glad I found this thread- just phoned to activate my new Barclaycard and was on the phone for 15 minutes being sold this identity protection!
I have now agred to it and will end up cancelling it in the cooling off period - bit annoyed with myself really for being persuaded :-(
I wouldn/t mind but I didn/t really ever want a barclaycard again either - was quite happy with my Goldfish Card till they were taken over !!
Off to look for another card I think !
 :hello: :hello: :hello: Remember - its nice to be nice !0 -
Cancel it now now now!!!Kavanne
Nuns! Nuns! Reverse!
'I do my job, do you do yours?'0 -
Just cancel the whole barclaycard, they're so incompetent it's unreal.0

I've just activated a Virgin card and was on the phone for a good 10 minutes whilst he tried to sell me payment cover and identity protection, thought I was never gonna get the fella off the phone! Very frustrating.0

Having read this thread a couple of weeks ago, it was with some trepidation that I telephoned Debenham's to activate my storecard. But, do you know what...not a dicky bird. Not a sniff of a hard sell. Or do they not offer theft protection on storecards?
(Yes, I know, a Debenham's storecard is not the best card to have interest wise but Debenham's childrens wear for DS and DD is my only vice and I try to pay it off most months)...:o
No. Pay it off every month. Really.0 -
Just got a letter back from Barclaycard ..
I am sorry to learn that you are unhappy with the service that you have received from Barclaycard. Our aim is to provide a first class service for our customers and I regret that you had cause to complain.
May I say how concerned I was to hear that you felt that you were being pressurised into purchasing insurance following your call to activate your replacement Barclaycard. This was certainly not our intention ....
[several reams of touchy feely talk of the hazards of identity theft "only trying to help" deleted].
If they receive enough complaints, they may back off the hard sell when calling about unconnected issues.Signature on holiday for two weeks0 -
The best way out is just to say you already have this with another company.
End of conversation!0 -
My in-laws are either side of 80 and, when activating their NatWest credit card a few days ago, were subjected to a real scare-mongering hard sell for the CPP £80pa rip-off.
Fortunately, they're trained not to sign anything without having a word with me first but they were really scared by what the person on the phone told them and nearly succombed to the pressure.
Assaulting the vulnerable like this is outrageous!0 -

Not always - I tried this recently (with Virgin I think it was) but then they came back saying that their product was better (before they even asked who mine was with) and wanting to compare their product with the one I had.
In the end I said either activate my card or you can have it back - seemed to work.0 -
