hold on , i take it you only work mon - fri which means you only get paid for 20 days not the 23 you state(unless you worked a couple of saturdays)
so 20 x 7 = 140 x 5.73 = 802.2 which is only 4 pounds higher then yoru first post. Just ask them anyway, its better to know what is going on then to fret about it all day.one of the famous 50 -

Paid for 23 hours? no, i work an 8 hour day am paid for 7 of those 8 hours that comes to 35 hours0 -
Have asked about contract of employment, apparently we don't get contracts, asked for written statement of hours and rate. legally they can't refuse me that.0

Check the period your pay covers. E.g. I get paid on the 6th of the month but my pay covers until the last day of the previous month, although it doesn't show that on my payslip.
A contract of employment is something your company has to legally provide, the same way they have to provide you with at least the minimum wage.
Companies that are involved in New Deal quite often take advantage of people who enter the company that way. (I'm on slightly above minimum wage, yet someone else at the company who had a job for 2 months prior to joining the company I work at gets paid £5000 per annum more (he foolishly left his payslip lying around in the kitchen.) Yet he doesn't have any more skills or experience than myself.0 -

ok i might be a bit mad... but surely the total pay is at the top, if u add the deductions onto it you earned £893.66 ..... thus taking you into earning more than min wage. Its just u dont receive all of the pay due to the deductions.
Im still not sure if I am the mad one lol or if its everyone else?0 -
the OP stated that only £701 went into her bank, so the basic pay was the gross pay.the only debt left now is on credit cards! The evil loan has gone!! :j:j0

doh didnt see that - in that case OP go ask ur employer to break down the pay rate etc cause im pickled and want to know the outcome lol0

1. Be very very careful as with less than 12 months service you have no protection from unfair dismissal - if they don't like you asking questions you could be out the door on the spot with no come back.
Saying you want the written particulars of your employment would surely count as wanting to exert one of your statutory rights and if the person was then fired the employer would need to show that it was not because the employee was exerting this statutory right?0 -
Worked out what it is.
Ignore the below, I got the calculation wrong. See new post
You're being paid a yearly salary (i.e. the minimum wage * the number of hours you work in a week * 52 /12 ) and the minimum wage has recently changed. At the old minimum wage you'd get £769.56 before tax and NI every month (whether it be 28 day Februrary or 31 day December, which is what most employers do) the fact you're getting more than that means your employer has increased your wage to £5.73 an hour during your pay period.0
