I tried it and hated it, firewalls are basically all the same and it is user preference that counts, what tends to happen is that programmers can'r stop fiddling with a fairly simple concept and you end up with a bloat you don't need. I just couldn't get to grips with the Outpost (Agnitum) firewall, although many swear by it.0

I use this on an older machine as it is lightweight:

I can't work out why you're so set against Zonealarm. It's always been a highly respected firewall (including the free version). I used to use the free version years ago and found it extremely easy to use. It's only some of the advanced settings in Zonealarm Pro (that I've been using for a few years now) that you would need to actually know what your doing to be able to set them up properly. Even the Pro version is a doddle (and highly secure) for everyday use.
Once the free version of Zonealarm is up and running on your system, you wouldn't normally have to deal with it except when you allow a new program access to the net (and this is only a popup box asking whether you want the program to access the net). I always found it very easy to click either yes or no.How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

The reason that I don't like Zone Alarm is that it's resource-hungry, clunky and over-intrusive. I removed it from my system when it stopped me from receiving any kind of e-mails and the removal process is a pain as well.
I use Look 'n Stop by Soft4Ever. It's unobtrusive, doesn't slow down my system at all and does what it said it would do. Their website: http://www.looknstop.com/En/index2.htm0
