E:30/11/04 Nokia 6610i on Orange YP120 £4.99/month

Posted here as opposed to on the telecoms board as I suspect that these deals will not last beyond next Tuesday - 30/11/2004

It's Friday evening and E2Save are at it again - it seems that they like to sneak new price cuts onto their site on a Friday night. Of course, in this instance it may have something to do with meeting monthly sales targets as November finishes on Tuesday.

The two latest bargains to be found on their website are as follows:

[url=http://www.e2save.com/mobile/phones/disphandset.php?network=orange&handset=6610I
]Nokia 6610i on Your Plan 120 for £4.99/month - year 1 cost of £60

[url=http://www.e2save.com/mobile/phones/disphandset.php?network=orange&handset=S65
]Siemens S65 on Your Plan 120 for £12.50/month - year 1 cost of £150

Of course, don't forget the other market-leading deals E2Save currently have on the Nokia 6230, Sony Ericsson K700i and Siemens SL65 on Orange Your Plan 120 and Your Plan 200 - see THIS THREAD for details of these.

Also don't forget that during November new Orange contract customers will be given an equal number of XNET evening minutes per month (valid 8pm-12am) for as long as you stay on your initial tariff and a bundle of 1000 evening texts valid for up to 6 months. Unless Orange choose to extend this offer, it will expire after Tuesday.

I suspect that this latest rash of Orange contract offers may have more to do with E2Save chasing monthly sales commissions on Orange than anything else so I'd be surprised to see them last beyond Tuesday as well.

As these deals are from E2Save, we all know that there will be plenty of people along very shortly offering to give you their refer a friend links in return for a donation to charity and some extra cashback. If you plan to go down this route, have a word with Payless - he will split his "refer a friend" money with you. However, if you are willing to donate your half to charity, he will do the same with his and send you a single cheque for £20 written out to the charity of your choice. IME, by far the most transparent of the refer-a-friend cashback/charity offers available on MSE at the moment.

Alternatively, If you plan to use a cashback site, why not support Martin's site and use one of his links?

Please Note: I had previously mis-stated the exact terms of Payless' charity/cashback scheme above (oh well..no-one's perfect). I've now amended the details. However, I still like the scheme as it allows for a 100% donation to charity, with the charity cheque sent to you for you to pass on

I thought you 2 had buried the hatchet, why bring this up again? ???

General question for Reestit Mutton: Do the service providers mind how many contracts a given customer has with them ? If I take out this contract just for the phone (i.e. I already have a perfectly good existing contract with another provider), will this affect my abilty to sign up for whatever super deal Orange may be offering when I need a new contract in 6 months time ?

Subject to credit status, can one simply carry on accumulating new contracts without reaching a point where one ceases to be eligible for new offers ?

If it makes any difference, I should say that I dont generally need to get a PAC as my phone is used mainly for outgoing calls only.

Some networks (certain Vodafone service providers & T-Mobile to my knowledge) take a customer’s previous spending pattern with them into account when deciding whether or not to approve you for a new contract. This means that if you take out a contract and are a low usage customer, drop your tariff as soon as you can and cancel as soon as you can you may find yourself unable to take out further contracts with that network. As far as I know Orange are yet to implement such a policy but with all networks becoming wise to 'system players' it is possibly only a matter of time. The way that Orange credit checks at the moment for existing customers is on a point scoring system (with paid bills resulting in points being accrued depending on the size of the bill).

In my experience Orange often approve new customers with good credit ratings for up to 6 handsets under one account to start off with and possibly allow further handsets at a later date (the number of handsets decreases for higher tariffs).

If you are thinking of taking out multiple contracts with Three on the other hand, be aware that their official policy is to limit the total number of contracts any individual can have running concurrently (with them) to 2. I’m sure people on here will point out exceptions to this but that is there official policy.

So to summarise, providing you are going to make use of the extra minutes provided by getting a new phone then the likelihood is taking a contract with Orange now probably won't affect your chances of getting another contract with them in 6 months time. Bear in mind though that it is possible that offers may not be as good in 6 months time as they are now if Orange decide to cut the subsidy they pay to retailers.

A further option to you if this is the case is to avoid unnecessarily paying two lots of line rental in 6 months time (and if you don't require an updated handset), Orange will allow you to port a number into them at any time during the 12 months of your contract. So you could get a PAC from your existing network in 6 months and move it over to Orange.

    Hope that helps,

    Joe

Is there any con with this or one of those cash back offers when you have to send in bills?

What do they exactly mean by this :

**Half price line rental charged for stated period relative to handset

I went to disconnect from Orange not so long ago and they offered me something similar but without the 1000 txt and extra 120 mins, this was for £15, is there anyway they will let you disconnect, since in relation to this deal I would say I have been ripped off!

I've always found you get a better deal by getting a new contract from scratch. Sometimes the network / provider have tried but simply can't go so low as to match the deals..... keeping the same number is not that big a deal for me. Got my eye on this one at the moment.

RM, anyone - here's a random question.... any of these deals include INTERNATIONAL texts (UK > abroad) ?
or if not.... which is cheapest (I text Russia frequently).

AFAIK O2 is the cheapest network to text abroad (12p a message).  This is on tariffs priced £35 per month or above (or if you add their international option for a monthly charge).  It would probably work out much cheaper to use a GPRS SMS gateway (roughly < 6p a message).  Incidentally this method tends to work out as the cheapest way to text while you are abroad.  I believe this service is available from https://www.vgsmail.com.  I've personally used Clickatell in the past but their payment system is quite long winded.

  • I thought you 2 had buried the hatchet, why bring this up again? ???

Because, as I stated, I believe Payless' scheme to be the most transparent - nothing more, nothing less. Am I not allowed to have a favoured cashback/charity scheme without someone reading anything into it?

Please...for the sake of the boards, I would ask you kindly not to invite another debate by suggesting there's anything more to this than meets the eye.

Each handset/tariff combination has a stated amount of discount - in the case of the Nokia 6610i, it is £4.99 for 12 months (via two casdhbacks - the first after 6 months and the second after 12 months).

Orange only recently added the evening texts and minutes to their tariffs and they *usually* only allow new customers to have these deals although, if you had pushed them hard enough, they may have given you access to the bonuses on this tariff if they were available at the time.

Unfortunately, there isn't the same cool-off period with renewals as there is with new contracts so I guess you're stuck with your current tariff.

Apologies - this is a bit OT

Thanks for the info. Previously I've used Orange HighSpeed Data plan as it gave internationla texts for 10p (and I'm sure cheaper in the past). I'm fed up with having no free minutes though or swapping sims.

I've recently signed up to vsgmail and I must say it's bloomin' fantastic. I'm using it with genietexter which is also rather marvellous. I've thought about sending through WAP but couldn't find out much about the practicalties of it all.

You mention 6p - is that including the cost from vgsmail (3.5p)? I haven't used much WAP / GPRS - how much would this cost on the YP120?- would I have to get the orange world 3 Mb thing (I guess I pay for data not time) ?

    Thanks.
