Thanks again Rylynn. Just got in the door from my son's cubs so probably too late to call tonight to get the whole story out so I'll do it first thing in the morning. Same with getting estate agents round ..

Will post on here with any updates ..

    Cheers:beer:

Have a sit down, relax and try to take it easy til your wife gets in.

One word of advice, dont get angry, but dont keep apologising either, for me you see you wife of 20 years has shared the good times, she has to share the bad times as well, that is what being in any partnership is about, even a business one.

Looking at what you have said you LOSE the house anyway, now as I said before I dont like putting some things, but is it your wife does not want the kids upset before Xmas, ie it sells you have to get out. Again this is why I said get advice as if you stay together you need to get a place now, and if that had to be on her credit rating which is not shot to hell so be it, but dont hang around like CAB have told her.

Your kiddies are pretty young then I assume, dont let someone who has no idea of the years gone into your marriage sway your wife to just throw it away, unless that is what she really wants, then you cannot change that, and we will still be here for you, to rant away.

Somthing today that happened to me will stay with me til my dying day, I got made bankrupt, but the judge said something that triggered something off 40 mins later when walking away from court, he said the words YOU ARE NOT ALONE, I am a huge music fan and the Michael Jackson song was playing in my head as I started to cry from the sheer relief of it all.

You will get there, just keep faith, you have made mistakes so have I, it is human nature. Dont beat yourself up like I have over it.

  • omg totally agree with rylynn,

we used the cab and they never suggested anything like that at all. isnt it some kind of fraud pretending to split up to get a councill house and benefits . not been funny or anything like.

but.. yous are in it together so both should of went to cab with all debt history and paper work ,bills and such.
just seems more sensible in my opinion

anyhow hope you get it sorted in the morning good luck
  • Hi Pearshaped,

I don't really have anything to add to what Rylynn has said, except to say that she's said what I was feeling and thinking when I read your OP. I am horrified that CAB would advise someone to split their family up in order to save money. My feeling is that there must be more to it, and you really need that talk with your wife.

I'm so sorry you're in this situation, but you're not alone, we've all been there (or fairly near!) and the folks on this board are very supportive, whatever happens.

    Take good care, CBx

Just a quick one : bankruptcy goes against the person's name, not the address.

  • Thanks everybody. Just going to get the kids to bed, have a glass of vino and take some deep breaths ! To be fair to my OH, she didn't actually say she was going to take the advice - just told me what hey had told her. She's just called and she seems a lot more together so we'll have a sit down when she gets in ..

I am thinking of you tonight, take care, dont drink too much vino before she arrives and have a glass for her as well. Glad she sounds more calm now.

  • the BR forms specifically ask for your addresses over the last 2 years, so your CAB advisor must have been a trainee to suggest you moving would avoid credit blacking of your actual address, besides which the OR could view it dimly, and it certainly would not reduce your share of any equity in your property should it get sold, forget what they told you, post a SOA on here and get a better advice session!

jeez, and we always say contact the CAB?...
