WIDEWSCREEN TV
Bought on the
29/10/05
Breaks down...
05/12/05...........NO picture,NO sound
Engineer arrives...
07/12/05........5min look and says it needs repairing
Comet can't collect TV and take it to workshop till....
16/12/05
16th is a friday which means they're not going to take alook at it till monday 19th Dec. To cut a long story short im not gonna have a TV over xmas. Even though the thing is bearly a month old comet have refused to replace it OR even give me a loan of a TV over xmas. I called their customer support and the guy argreed it was very doubtful that they could repair/get the TV back to me in 4days (19th-23rdDec when they break up)
Comet policy on break downs...
If they can't repair within a reasonable amount of time they will offer a replacment or a full refund(which is a big selling point for them). :j
So i asked the guy what do they consider a reasonable amount of time? After going off and speaking to his supervisor he says 'comet doesnt have a exact timetable for judging what is a reasonable amount of time' !!!!!!!!!!!
My reply....
Well this is clearly not going to get sorted before xmas which is going to mean 3 weeks without a TV and if they need parts it will be even longer so lets stop a problem before it becomes one and offer me a replacment.
sorry sir we can't do that
WHAT A JOKE

Did you purchase it with a credit card?0

I wouldn't mess about with this one. If i was in your position i would march into Comet store with the TV in hand (i know it's 28" so you might want to get someone to help), explain that it won't work, which infact means the product isn't fit for the purpose you bought it and that you want a replacement. A TV which is only a month old should not break down so soon. The law relating to this sort of thing changed in 2003.
If they get stroppy ask to speak to the store manager and explain that you are not prepared to have a brand new TV repaired and that you expect a replacement. Say that you have spoken to trading standards at the local council and they tell you that you're are entitled to a replacement from the retailer.
Good luck

I agree the Tv isnt fit for what it was bought for.

Under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (amended 2003) that all goods sold by a trader must be:
1of satisfactory quality
covers minor and cosmetic defects as well as substantial problems. It also means that products must last a reasonable time. But it does not give you any rights if a fault was obvious or pointed out to you at point of sale.
2as described
refers to any advertisement or verbal description made by the trader.
3fit for purpose
covers not only the obvious purpose of an item but any purpose you queried and were given assurances about by the trader.
I've spoke trading standards and they said that a reasonable waiting time would be about 28 days. They also said im not intitled to a replacment yet. What i waste of time they were.0 -
My advice to anyone would be to not buy anything from comet! I have bought something from there that broke down as did a friend and the so called customer service was the worst ive ever encountered!I understand ALOT more than I care to let on0

i never buy from comet, got a very bad rep, manly use currys or bennets cheaper as well0

Comet are a joke, my wahsing machine broke 2 days after it was delivered, that was 7th Nov, they have still not come to repair it! Constant phone calls and missed appointments, and their c/s helplines are pathetic!Sense is not common.0

i bought a bosch fridge/freezer from them 2 years ago (heatwave time). took delivery and had to let it stand for a few hrs. plugged it in and let it get to temp. put all new food in it then the temp started rise rapidly eventually reaching room temp. lost all food as it defrosted etc. it took them 2 more weeks to deliver new one and that one didnt work either so it took another 2 weeks for another one.
NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM COMET.
because i brought it from the internet the shop did not want to know and customer services were appalling. tried to claim for loss of food but they basically said take note of everything in your fridege/freezer and we will refund you. sent it off to them and they wrote back requiring damaged goods i.e. gone off manky food which they thought that i should have kept in temp of 30 degrees. yeah right.0 -

Best thing to do in this circumstance would be to take a picture of the pile of food before binning it. Very often that will suffice and they wont ask for further proof.Herman - MP for all!0 -
