PasturesNew wrote: »Noise is a sod. I am on the spectrum and have massive noise intolerances. I was kept awake last night as my upstairs neighbour came home at 2.40am with a friend and was clomping about on her laminate floor (think two giggling early 20s drunken girls directly over your head in high heels).
Drove me to distraction. I had to go outside in the street. I'll admit I cried. The noise died down after half an hour, but there was "some noise" after that for a total of 2 hours. This morning I am wrecked and distressed.
What people don't appreciate with ASD is that not only does the initial noise disturb and distress, but I find I am jumpy/anxious/alert/twitchy and can't settle for up to 2 hours after it stops. If I'd had to go to work this morning I'd have either been a danger on the roads or a mess at work.
So I can understand why it is important for you to move. Noise can be a major issue with this spectrum of disorders.
Good luck.
Thanks for that PasturesNew...two of my boys are on the spectrum and people just cannot understand that anything that unsettles them will not just be for the time it is happening but also for hours afterwards, so it is great to get it from the adult perspective. The amount of explaining I have had to do with teachers and relatives on this issue is unreal and at the end of it, all I get is either blank looks or the look that says " Ahhh over protective mother" or "She is talking out of her bum and making it all up!"We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
SingleSue - I get the same. I have an appointment with school tonight because I just can't seem to get through to them. They have sat my daughter by the bin (she can't stand the smell) and people keep pushing past her chair to get to the bin to sharpen their pencils and she can't stand them brushing against her. No matter how many times I go to school they just don't understand and they think I am a fussy mum making up problems0
