  • Okay, I've just moved into a new Wimpey flat and it has these stupid lights. I can't seem to find any shades that fit them so I've been living with bare bulbs for the past few months. Any suggestions where I can buy shades (preferably uplighting ones) that might fit?

    Thanks
  • Holy thread resurrection.
Glad to see 4 years on these stupid bulbs still havent got widespread support for shades.
I ended up just puting normal bulbs back in if i recall - got a sparkey to do them all for a few quid
  • If you google "energy saving light bulbs shades" then this is the first thread.

I'm renting the flat, otherwise I would change the fittings myself.

Anybody know where I can buy any suitable shades?
  • Has anyone managed to find somewhere that sells shades to fit these chunky fittings yet?

I just moved into a new build by Explore Living and have spent a month in shops and on line with out any luck

The sales lady at the development thought that Ikea or Homebase sold suitable shades but I've been to both and to both websites and they do not stock them.

please help if you've managed to track down a stockist!

    Thanks

I seen this thread when I was hunting for shades to fit! and I found some .. thought I would pop back and let people know in case anyone else needs any

Wilkinsons have them, I have looked through their website and it doesn't say anything on there about being dual fitting, but I was in store and they have a plastic ring inside which you pull out and its big enough to go around the light fitting. They have quite a good selection, not all of them are so you are better off going instore to look

Most of the cylinder ones here have them

    Hope this helps someone :)

really? i'll be first at the door of John Lewis :j , that is if I havent been blinded by a daft light with no shade
I thought that everyone was saying that the low energy bulbs are too dim. So no chance of getting blinded.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

  • I can't believe this thread still exists. We had to have these fittings put in when we had an extention for building regulations, and I've can't find any shades either (or any I like anyway).

I'm going to try to balance normal shades on top of the whole transformer and see how that works.

It's sooo annoying that this problem exists because I really like the lights (energy saving, really bright and turn on immediately). I can't belive that shade manufactures haven't cottoned on to this.
  • Hurrah! Argos have some! I'd just bought a new flat and rushed in with my cream uplighters only to discover these mad fittings in place in the hall and spare room! After much searching and reading this forum, managed to find some in Argos of all places! They are quite cheap and come in a variety of colours. Usually £4.99 each, but they do 2 for £8 and are actually on sale at the moment so I got 4 for around £14. Catalogue number is 432/7985 - I got mine in chocolate, but they've got about 9 different colours. They're dual fitting so all you have to do is pop out the inner ring, if you'll pardon the expression! So happy now! :j
