Expecting 5 yrs out of a freesat recorder! If its not dead after 2-3 it will be obsolete

Well my TIVO's still going strong after nearly 8 years. Just keeps going and going. It's the best thing I ever bought. And it works with everything (Sat, Cable, Freeview) so it keeps moving with me.

You guys with you Sky+'s et all just don't understand what you have missed.

I will grieve like have never before when it dies!

If i now cancel my sky package and have sky freesat can i still use my Sky+ box or do i still have to pay £10?

Minor point but Sky+ records the digital feed, NOT the decoded program, it decodes it as it plays it back. After you cancel your Sky subscription you will NOT be able to watch anything that was on a subscription channel (eg Sky one, Sports, Movies etc) even though you have it recorded already.

And I love my TiVo too...

Only if you have a direct debit set up, which you can cancel if you wish. However you can also pay by giro slip.:D
You can't be lost if you don't know where you're going.

It's a hi-definition recorder. Which technology is it that's coming along that will make it obsolete? Sky+ will be obsolete, since Sky+ HD is already here. People are talking about buying Freeview recorders here too. That's what I've had for a few years, which will be 'obsolete' (not really, IMO) in 2012 for me when the digital switchover happens, and Freeview HD comes along. Then you'll need a freeview HD recorder. I agree that £300 is a bit pricey, and I'm not sure that I want to spend on it straight away, but it will certainly be cheaper, and higher picture quality, than your Sky+ box over it's life...
