Unfortunately this will also impact on your future insurance. A claim made, even if cancelled later may increase your future premiums for a few years. It also means that you can't use any online services to get cashback against the purchase of insurance as once you declare that a claim has been made you always have to phone up and discuss it with someone so that the full circumstances can be assessed.

My OH believes we have actually paid more in increased premiums than we actually got back for our claim after the excess was removed :(

I have done a couple of quotes on line to see how much my premium will go up by and it doesnt seem to be too bad. I dont know whether the 2 rings are going through as one claim or two. Ival have been instructed and are in the process of the claim so not sure if the claim is too far gone to cancel.
  • Reminds me i need to add wifeys engagement ring when i renew my home insurance soon.. problem is, it's worth about £7k ... adds about £100 to the price of insuring the house.

I've got some photos of it i've taken myself.. but not even sure where the receipt is so wouldn't know how to prove we've got this ring.

i havent got the reciepts for mine. They asked for pictures of me wearing the rings so you might want to taken some with your wife wearing the ring.

My wife's ring is valued at £2200; however the extra insurance for her was only £15.75 with Direct Line. Although that doesn't cover worldwide travel / more than 30 consecutive days away.

I would suggest you get a professional valuation done and a store the certificate securely should you ever need to make a claim. Your photos will be of limited value other than showing the ring exsisted.

Recently my wife lost the diamond from her engagement ring and with no proof of the quality of the diamond the insurers were only prepared to offer to cover costs for the lowest quality diamond replacement. In the end we upgraded and got a bigger and very high quality diamond, but made sure we had proof of this in case it gets lost again.

Diamond quality is very important when assessing value, a lot of people think the value is only size dependent, but quality is as important. Colour, cut and clarity of the diamond need to be recorded and will affect the cost of a replacement.

My claim has now gone through and I have been awarded a certain amount to spend in Goldsmiths. The lady from Goldsmiths told me to look on there website and have a look then give her a call. The thing is my partner wants me to have an identical ring if possible as he chose my ER and does not want me to have another one. Goldsmiths do not have the type of ring I had they are mostly solitares where mine was 4 diamonds in a sq.

I was thinking of getting him to contact the place he bought my ER to see if he could get something similar or give us a money to purchase elsewhere. Would the underwritters NU pay for the ring from somewhere else. I tried to ring but they were closed after 5 and shut on weekends. Has any1 had a similar experience?

I would just be glad yuo are getting anything at all. You havent really provided much proof that rings existed in the first place. No receipts, no photos of you wearing them...

And one has turned up in your own home. I certainly wouldnt be asking for cash-I smell a rat and I'm not even from an insurance companyt.

Your policy should (nowadays) be a reinstatement policy, which should put you back in the same position as you were to prior to the loss. If their nominated supplier cannot supply the item, you should obtain a quote to replace it exactly from your own jeweller.

I'd be suprised if it wasnt a specified item condition that you have a valuation in the event of any claim.
