Cant believe I have lost 2 rings, my engagement and one I was given for my 21st. I usually take it off to do the wasking up, shower etc but leave it on all other times. On Sunday I realised I didnt have it on and have turned the house upside down.
What do I do!! The rings arent over £1,500 so didnt mention them in the Insurance (post office) can I claim as cant afford to buy another.
Help!

Explain your line that says "the rings arent over £1,500 so didnt mention them in the Insurance", do you mean that these were not declared individually as expensive items?
What does your policy say under high cost items, all insurance policies differ so go and have a look at your actual policy. My last policy had individual item only up to £500 with items more than that needing to be listed seperately but my new policy has a higher limit of either £750 or £1000 for individual items before they need declaring individually.
If you have a high single item limit then each ring might come in at less than that which means you might be able to claim. The only other problem is whether you actually had sufficient insurance, so for instance if your personal items were insured for X amount and the two rings were too high a percentage of that then they could say you were not covered as you were under insured.
Obviously if you turn out not be insured then there is nothing you can do except keep looking for your rings.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thanks for the reply.
I am sure when I did my insurance online in stated to declare anything which was worth over £1,500 so I didnt put them on the policy.
Would I be covered though as they are lost, I am sure I left them somewhere easy for my little boy could of easily reached.
I think it is best to give them a call.0 -
Are both rings over £1500 or do they total over £1500 as of course they are treated as individual items.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Is it possible they fell into the sink (or your little boy pushed them in).
Your sink(s) should have a "U bend".
The rings should settle at the bottom of the U enabling them to be retrieved.
Did you go anywhere else that you got changed e.g. gym?
or did you wash up at a relatives home?
I can't see why you wouldn't be insured but it's the kind of claim that people can make up so expect some questioning.
Do you have receipts or pictures with you wearing the rings?
You should always keep receipts for items like this for this reason.
You might get a visit from the insurer for them to assess whether you are telling the truth.
If you have any pics, receipts of matching jewelry e.g. earrings, then be prepared to show them.0 -
I am not sure if looked in sink - looked everywhere else.
ER £650 ish other £300 ish.
I have rung Post Office and advised rings lost, they will ring me in the next 48hrs. I will look for some piccys but hope I find it as dont want anything else0 -

Averaging doesnt apply to internal policy limits- as long as the total sum insured was sufficient their wouldnt be a problem with it. The only thing that might cause a problem is if the items are so far above the SAL, but then it would be related to the risk of the policy holder.0 -
 Well they werent in the sink
Can anyone advise what happens next? I cant find any reciepts and the rings are about 3 & 5 years old and have moved since then so might of got lost. The PO said someone from Norwich Union would be ringing within 48 working hours what do they ask? I am not one for pictures and am having a trouble find either a picture of me let alone one with my hands in!
Also will I need to pay two excesses?0 -
I do have both the boxes!0

If you only have standard contents insurance they are nor insured as the policy covers theft or damage within the home eg fire etc. You can't really lose something within the home forever, its just misplaced!
You need personal possessions/All Risks/Unspecified - this provides cover iro loss in and away from the home.
Good luckACII and Chartered so now I can focus on learning to play my beautiful Sax. 🎷0 -
I do believe I am covered as the lady from the POst Office said my policy covered the loss of the rings but I am unsure what I need to do now and how long a claim procedure takes?0
