Many people still on LUS would be very happy to be transferred automatically to BT Basic, but who is chosen by BT and how?
I notice the BT representative hasn't really commented on this.
It was originally stated that those on LUS, would automatically be transferred over to BT Basic (regardless of income/conditions). Is this no longer the case ??0 -
if i have just took out a 12 month contract on a normal free evening and weekend calls (by an accident - see other thread) can i change over to this package or would i have to wait till the 12 month contract came to an end

Thank you for the feedback, and get back to me if there is anything else that I can help with.
darren72, there are still some customers on the Light User Scheme, but it is no longer available to new customers and those who are still on it will be contacted (if they have not already) to change over a different tariff.
Cheers,

This is so funny, cos I first got my letter telling me my light user scheme was disappearing sometime last year, I've just had my latest bill till 02/07/09 and it was still thankfully light user scheme so got the credit back so only £14.29 a quarter and bill said advance payment for light user scheme. The longer I stay on the scheme I'm on the happier I am because from what I can work out neither Basic nor any other BT rental is going to be the same on either cost or usefulness to me.
I just hope I'm correct that BT have to write to me 2 weeks prior to switching me away from my beloved Light User Tarriff, because if they dont tell me ahead of time and simply switch me I will be extremely annoyed and then try to find out what the complaints procedures are against such actions.
Till then BT please keep happily ignoring me and leave me alone with my very good Light User service. Oh and your webpage is slow & useless for information, and your customer service people on phone lines are the worst I have ever encountered, even worse than trying to get information from banks or government!0 -
Hello again PGSchick. You are not the only person who has been on red alert for losing the LUS only to get bill after bill for the same old service.
Darren72 has asked again about who/when in connection with an automatic transfer to BT Basic. No straight answers yet.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

Hi *depressed*,
You can switch to BT Basic (as long as you're eligible), you will still be on a 12 month contract for the actual line, but not for the calling plan.
PGSchick, good to see you're still happily on the Light User Scheme. How long ago did you get that letter?
PlutoinCapricorn, when customers on the Light User Scheme get their letter, they will be able to see the following info:
- The Light User Scheme is closing down;
- It will be replaced with BT Basic for customers on one of the four eligible state benefits. If customers have access to an internet connected computer they can find out more on www.bt.com/btbasic or wait for a leaflet and application form;
- Customers who aren’t eligible for BT Basic can sign up to the free Evening and Weekend offer at £0 (above the cost of their line rental) on the 12 month renewable contract offer (or other calling plans if they don't want to go onto this one).
Hope this helps!
Cheers,
Stephanie

How does that explain why initially people were being transferred over from LUS to BT Basic automatically (and didn't meet the benefit requirements) ??0 -
Darren72, it was a nice try but yet again BT have not given a straight answer.
Many people have been transferred automatically from BT LUS to BT Basic without applying and without receiving a qualifying benefit. I have quoted various examples and explanations, including some from BT, but we are still in the dark about who gets transferred and why. BT did say that it might be people on low incomes who do not ask for benefits, but how do they identify these people?
The one thing that I am sure of is that many BT LUS users will cancel the line rather than go onto a more expensive tariff.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?
