[QUOTE=BT company representative;21485845 If you do not qualify for BT Basic and do not request the Unlimited Evening and Weekend Plan you will be automatically changed to the Unlimited Weekend Plan which is BT's cheapest line rental

An elderly relative of mine, who has been on LUS for a few years as she doesn`t make many calls but needs contact for family, has received a letter telling her she`ll be thrown off this tariff by BT and placed on whatever, but NOT BT Basic.

Today, she has signed up with TalkTalk. :T

Other people affected by BT`s attitude should do the same.
Why stay with a company that doesn`t want you.

This appears to be a heaven-sent opportunity for one of the 'new line providers' to step in and grab some free pubicity by taking on BT's rejected customers - come on Talk Talk, where are you?

    See above post Heinz.

My aunt was on the LUS ,she has been moved to BT basic .she wasnt asked ,she was just moved .

I know of cases where this has also happened, which just proves BT have no really hard and fast rule regarding LUS.
They seem to be in a panic just to shift people onto anything just to speed up closing the LUS as fast as possible.
The letter poeple received, advising them of being shifted, has a slip attached for them to tick and send back agreeing to be moved onto "unlimited evenings & weekends".
This is one of BT`s tactics of "pressurising" old and vunerable people into thinking they have to accept their 12 months contract and also making it easier for BT because they then don`t have to send more forms asking people to apply for "basics".

Agree about the letter sent. Whilst they're offering you their best deal it doesn't state 'other plans are available, check website for details' which would probably go a long way to soothing feelings of them stitching the ex light users up.

Some postings are very helpful, but I am still rather confused.

Apparently some people who were on the Light User tariff definitely have been moved automatically onto BT Basic.

BT representatives have said on MSE that many people do not take up benefits and are on a low income, so they may be able to get BT Basic anyway.

Is there any connection between the two cases? How does BT know how much someone's income is - do they just guess?

Many people still on LUS would be very happy to be transferred automatically to BT Basic, but who is chosen by BT and how?

my father-in-law has been automatically transferred to BT Basic from the LUS. There is no way he would qualify for it on means-tested grounds. He just doesn't use the phone much.

This is good news for your father in law. I am wondering whether he will be asked to prove his eligibility at some later date.

Perhaps not using the phone much is the determining factor when people are transferred automatically.

Did he get the letter with the tear-off slip for the free evening & weekend tariff?

Currently I'm still on the light user plan. I'm waiting for them to change me to the free weekend calls package as the BT representative stated above but this hasn't happened as yet. I'm still enjoying the cheap calls but it's actually a bit of a pain as I want to change to Sky and I can't change my BT call plan online, have to phone where they will probably give me the hard sell, what a pain.
