NDG, i know what you're saying and you are right - i've responded to Carol's post about Camden trying to make out it was very cheap in 1996.
I know another flat in our block was sold in 1997 for £170k.
It's the same layout as ours, so 3 beds, living room, kitchen, 2 (tiny) bathrooms. And this is in Bloomsbury.
A 2 bed flat in this block sold in 1996 for £120k. Both owners still live here.
So I don't find Carol's figures impossible to believe....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
These are Halifax calculations - aren't they the 'bible' of the HPC gang along with the Nationwide figures!?
No, they are a indication - a good and interesting one - not gospel....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Never, Im totally in awe of anyone having a flat in Bloomsbury

We rent it, we don't own it....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
            even so ...............:)0

There was no need for the last sentence ess0two.
A higher standard of debate is required and appreciated:wall:
What we've got here is....... failure to communicate.
Some men you just can't reach.

It's a lovely place to live....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

without dragging this out and without getting into too much of a debate with you but I'd rather go by the 'indicator' that the Halifax figures provide than what Carol (who lives in a small village in the middle of no-where by her own admission) tells me who continously disregards facts and figures given to her - IveSeenTheLight and Realy have done this a number of times, however these same figures are then used to back her argument when a HPI poster is around.
It's common knowledge that she continuosly posts HPC doom due to her own decision not to purchase when she had the opportunity and now vents her anger at those who have been brave enough to buy.
to add there are HPI people that have the same issues by the way and they are just as bad.0 -
I do indeed live in a small village in the middle of nowhere (well, greater London, actually - just inside M25), but I don't believe that all that fresh air has affected my memory, yet.
I was living in North London in 1995-96, and looking to buy in the area at that point, so was very well aware of what things were asking and sold for. Just as now, property prices were a subject of discussion and I knew very well what friends bought for at the time.
Why do you have such a problem with this?
Ah - I know - it's because it doesn't fit in with your argument that house prices have never been 'affordable' and therefore never will be again.
Sorry. They were - and will be again.
I don't mind waiting.
