Please can you help. We are upto date with all the payments on our loans and credit cards (just) but my hubby's wage has dropped by half with him working in the construction industry and therefore we are short every month and only just getting by by using credit to live on. . .
We have a four month old baby and I am having to go back to work full time in five weeks but even going back to my normal wages we are still going to be short!!!
We owe £16000 in unsecured loans, £8000 in overdrafts and £42000 in credit cards!!! All the cards except one have put the interest rate up to well over 20% mainly being 24.9 and above and we cannot get any 0% cards due to the mount of credit we have. I have had a personal message about the credit card agreements could not be enforcable but am wary that this is not true??? Also is it a good idea to ask for copies of the credit agreements when we are paying ok?
I have done your debt remedy and it suggests a low start dmp or an iva but would like to avoid this really.
Thanks0 -
Hi there,
I already have a DMP with CCCS but have been paying into it for a year now and am getting nowhere fast. I have never missed a payment and have a reasonably high payment of £736 per month.
Most of my creditors are still charging me interest and HSBC with whom I have the biggest debt have still not accepted my offer of payment and are increasing my debt by £25 per month.
At the current rate it will take me over 100 years to repay my credit card.
I have written letters and CCCS tell me thay have too but nothing is happening, what do I do now?0 -

We owe debt to credit cards, no personal loans or store cards. We owe in total 65k. Having filled in the questionaire on the cccs website, we have a question about the income section. On average o/h earns £2409 per month with child benifit and tax credit of £166 on top. The problem is because he is commission based. His income this year varied from £1849 at the lowest to £4090 at the highest. How can be deal with this difference on a debt plan?0 -
Edited to say that I have this problem under control.0

Hello everyone
I have a query regarding an outstanding council tax bill from last year for the amount of 650.00. Me and my partner got behind on this bill and have been making payments to the council every month for the amount of 100.00. they have been demanding we pay 260.00 per month but due to having children we just do not have this money disposable to us after all our othr utilitie bills, etc. We have now received an Attachment Of earnings letter stating they are to take 220.00 ish!!!a month directly form my partners earnings!!
We are in the process of filing for bankrupcy as we now owe 20,000 in debt and do not have any other option but to do this. my query is can we include the attachment of earnings in ot the bankrupcy or is it too late???If so do we have any grounds to ask if this amount can be reduced as we would not be able to feed or clothe our children without this money??Please help, we are incredibly worried. These people make you feel useless and like you dont care which is far from the case, we are desperate to sort this out!!
Thankyou everyone

I know CCJ's stay on record for 6 years but i just need to know if they confirm an end of payment type thing?
Once you've made your final payment to a CCJ, you need to apply to the court for a Certificate of Satisfaction. There is normally a £10 fee to get this, but once you've had it you can send a copy to the credit reference agencies to show that the debt is now cleared.
Hope this helps,

I live abroad and my daughter(23) is in severe debt in the UK. She has actually contacted yourselves by telephone and was told you were unable to help her because she owed more than her incoming income. She actually only owes £5000 max but can get no help from no-one. She has no credit rating so cannot get a loan of any sort except with high APR's. Also she has been told by National Debtline she doesn't owe enough!!! She has written to her creditors to try to make a reduced payment and they have all refused saying they want all or maybe a small reduction for settlement straight away. She has the bailiffs round for council tax and she has made herself so ill that she has anxiety/panic attacks on a regular basis which has caused her to have time off work giving her even less money. She knows it is all her fault for sticking her head in the sand but has anyone any suggestions. I would obviously help if I could but unfortunately that is not possible.
Hi there.
We can still provide advice for people where their expenditure exceeds their income. Did your daughter actually have a full appointment with a debt counsellor? If so, we would have still provided the advice she needs to deal with her creditor, but a DMP would not have been a possibility due to their being no surplus to offer towards the creditors.I am a Debt Counsellor that works for the CCCS and have specific permission from Martin, to post on these boards to try and help those in debt. Hi I owe alot of money on credit cards (approx £80K).
So far I have managed the mimimum payments each month but I am getting to the point where I am struggling to do this.
Before things get any worse I want to try and negotiate a payment plan with the credit cards. My fear is as soon as I do this I will lose my credit facilities. One of the credit cards I use for work and need it to fund my petrol (I am a salesman) I get expenses refunded every 2 weeks so they see a good repayment.
What do I need to do before I approach they card companies?
The general advice when making reduced payments is that you have to stop using all sources of credit to show your willingness to repay the debts and show you are not likely to borrow any more money. Could you perhaps see if your employers can give you a petrol allowance rather than using your own credit card? Or would it be possible for them to make you a cardholder for an account in their name rather than yours? You don't have to tell them you are struggling with debt, just that things are a bit tight at the moment.
The problem you have is if you start to make reduced payments to your other creditors, is that it's likely that your credit score will come down which may result in the company you have the card you use for petrol reducing or removing your borrowing facility which will obviously put you in a difficult position. Furthermore, should any of the other creditors go for a CCJ in the long run, it won't look favourible if you've been offering preferential treatment to that one creditor.

Hi I'm new to all of this so please forgive me if I've no idea what I'm doing!
I used to have an IVA with Gregory Pennington but left them a couple of years ago to go with CCCS instead (was fed up of paying a mangement fee and insurance!). My debts were all at collections agencies when I joined CCCS and with the payments I'm currently making, I'm going to be debt free in about 18 months.
Is the debt management plan I have with CCCS like an IVA and will my credit file be affected for years after?
Thanks Michelle:A
Hi Michelle.
I think I've answered your question via a PM. Give me a shout if you've not got it.
