Hi spendthrift66 and thank you for your message

The guidelines are based on the British Bankers Association.
The reason for the review of your DMP is to update your budget and discuss any changes to your circumstances.
So,if you are struggling to make ends meet and finding it difficult to stick to your budget, then discuss this with your counsellor at the review. They will look at any increases you need to make and they will update your budget and advise you accordingly.

    Regards
    CCCS Sue

Thank you Sue. I will talk to the counsellor at review. When I had it last year there didn't seem to be much room for negotiation! - but I will try as I find it impossible to live on the allowance.

That said, I am really grateful to CCCS and am definitely moving in the right direction!

    Thanks again

  • Hi there,

I was wodnering if you can help me. I have gone and got myself into a bit of a pickle with my credit cards :( I moved out of home when I was 18 and I have also been to uni (I am now 25) In that time I have ran up £7,000 on credit cards and als have a £2k overdraft.

I have been moving the debt on my credit cards around onto new cards.I am with MBNA and I did have a good deal where I was not paying much interest. However the offer has ran out and when I called them last they said my interest rate has gone up to nearly 30%. I can't get another credit card because I am now back at uni doing a PGCE, I have applied for other cards and I can't get them. I'm really stressed because I can't even afford the interest on them, if I only pay the interest off for the next year until I get a job that is going to be over a thousand pounds that I could have paid off the card.

Please help is there anything I can get them to do to freeze the interest without going bankrupt. My boyfriend and I want to try and get a mortgage in the next few years once I have sorted these debts out and I do not want to have a bad credit rating for when I do this!

Thank you so much for your help, I really do appreciate it!!!
  • Hi Sarah
I have a couple of questions that I hope you can help with
I am about to enter a DMP with CCCS and I am just in the process of setting up a basic bank account. I have worked out that all my priority debts will be paid at the start of the Nov but I have a loan that is included in the DMP to my bank that comes out on the 5th of the month - if I contact them before the start of Nov with the letter stating i am entering a DMP and cancel their DD are they likely to still try to take the DD as they will be aware of the impending DMP?

Also I am concerned about them calling me - can I request in writing at the time of sending the letter notifing of the DMP that I will only deal with written correpsondance

This site has been so hopefully and I am no longer a head in the sand ostrich but feel confident I can clear my debts and start again in a few years debt free and a bit more money savvie
    thanks in advance

  • Hi,

If you could be kind enough to answer my question it would be much appreciatted. My husband was a part owner of a small ltd company that went bankrupt last year. He had taken out an MBNA credit card which although was in the company name he seems to think it was a personal credit card agreement. MBNA's solicitors have now issued a CCJ against us but just wanted to know if as it was used for a business that has now gone bust are we still liable for the debt.

My husband subsequently found a job as an employee but then was made redundant and is now on jobseekers allowance. We have taken advice and are making token payments to the companies we owe money to. However, I just suddenly thought as this credit card was connected with his old business should it be treated any differently to our other credit card debt????

Thanks in advance for your help

    Hi

If a creditor got a charging order against me would I have to sell my house or would the order be paid off when I eventually sell the house.

My mortgage is up to date as is my secured loan, all my debts are unsecured.

I've also got my mother living with me and she's got Alzheimers and would be classed as vulnerable.

Oh, yes forgot to mention we're living in Scotland so I know the rules are slightly different here.

    Thanks for your message.

I have sent your message to my colleague in Glasgow as I’m not trained in Scottish debt. When she gets back to me I will let you know.

  • Sorry to nip in but I'm 99% certain you don't get Charging Orders in Scotland. You get Inhibition Orders. Your creditor cannot force you to sell your home through an IO, it just means if/when you do they get first dibs on the money from sale. They need to be renewed every 5 years.

  • Thanks for that, one of my creditors has threaten a Charging Order unless I pay off the whole amount by the end of the month.

Not worrying about it though, as they have consistently ignored all my letters (sent registered post), so if it does go to court then I've proof that I've tried to negiotiate and offer what I can afford to pay. Nothing else really I can do.
Getting there, slowly but I WILL be debt free before I retire

    Hello,

Is there any way you can look at increasing your income? This is the only way you will be able to pay the debts without your credit file been affected.

If not you could look at making reduced payments to your creditors and ask them to freeze the interest and charges. To do this, you would need to put together a detailed financial statement and make an offer of repayment based on your budget.

If you need any help completing a budget, then you could use our free online debt advice system Debt Remedy. This link will take you directly there. Or to book an appointment with one of our trained counsellors you would need to contact our helpline free on 0800 138 1111.

Lines are open Monday to Friday 08:00-20:00. It would be helpful that when you call you have details ready regarding your income, expenditure and creditors, as this can help speed up the referral process. If you have this information ready it may be possible to refer you directly to a counsellor if one is available, otherwise we will arrange a time that is convenient for you to be called back for an appointment.

    Hello,

You will need to make sure everything is moved away from that account as soon as possible. A lot of the time banks will still take the payment from your account this is known as the ‘right of offset’.

For the loan you could make them a token payment until the DMP is up and running, but you would still need to switch things over to be on the safe side.

Good luck with your DMP and if you need any advice, please feel free to ask!

  • Hello!

Quick question, I signed up for DMP thorugh CCCS debt remedy. Today I rceeived the initial thing to sign and send away all my statements, letters and proof of income. I just wondered how long it takes roughly between sending off the signed DMP thing today and receiving my welcome pack and having it all confirmed and ready to go?!

    Thanks!
