Ask a CCCS counsellor a question

January 2007 I was having financial problems and I had been listening to Martin Lewis on Jeramy Vines show, on radio 2 for a couple of years. I decided to take up the advice given. I rang c.c.c.service and I got a date back when someone would ring me, a really nice guy guided me through the do's and dont's of my debt situation and drew me up a budget plan. He told me if I stuck to it I would be debt free February 2009! So I bought a spiraled bound note book and kept a track off all my spending. Christmas 2007 was the first xmas I had payed for in cash since 2001!! I was on a roll. I now budget for everything and u guessed it yep it's Feb 2009 and I'm debt free!!! Even though my debt was only a couple of grand I new I was over spending. Am glad I rung and you can do it 2!!!
Best wishes from claire xx:j

Please help!
I have recently inherited enough money to pay off my Administration Order, but when I called to get a figure, I was told that it had been revoked, and all debts handed back to original companies.
I have now checked my credit report, as suggested by CCCS on phone, and none of these debts are listed! I have changed addresses with banks as I have moved, so am surprised that they haven't caught up with me!
Does this mean that I don't owe them anymore?
Hi Katie,
Did you have a Composition Order running alongside the Admin Order? How long were you paying the admin order for?
If you could ask the court the following details and get back to us..
When was it revoked?

My husband and myself phoned CCCS today regarding our debts of 37K. he has no job at the moment due to lack of work around in our area...and although we have struggled through up until now without missing payments we are no longer going to be able to may the payments on one wage.
They said to phone all our creditors and ask them to put our credit card accounts on hold for 28 days until we have our meeting with CCCS in two weeks time - which after this we will phone them back & update them on the situation.
We started the horrible task of doing this , however when it came to phoning MBNA they were extremely rude - even though i had been a customer for over 12 years with not one missed payment. The lady said that she could not put the account on hold & that she had now put a barr on it & i was to send the cards back to MBNA??????????? She also continued to say that with MBNA the debt will stay with us on record for 16 YEARS!!!!!! and will also effect us being able to get motor insurance.
Can someone please advise is this really the case?????????
Also i need advise on how to make jesture payments & when these should be made. ONe of the accounts is egg and is done over the internet...so can i just make a payment by debit card?
Can some one help....it has been a very difficult time getting to this point but i know that we are on the right track no matter how diffcult it may be at least we are now trying to deal with our debt problems.
Hi Charliemouse,
That’s a new one to me!
You are doing the right thing by contacting your creditors and making token of payments, I’m not to sure what the relation between motor insurance and a credit card is, but it’s nothing to be worried about – think it must be some collections tactic.
You will be fine making your payment online to egg.
Let me know how you get on with your appointment, good luck!I am a Debt Counsellor that works for the CCCS and have specific permission from Martin, to post on these boards to try and help those in debt. She ws really helpful and took all of my details and answered all of my questions but i forgot to ask this one.
Will i give all my money to CCCS to pay my bills? I have over £14000 in debt although i am not behind on any of the payments (yet) i have been living off overtime which has dried up at work so i am now starting to struggle.
I understand that i will give money to CCCS who will pay the companys i have a debt with but what about household bills and rent, im not behind with these so i dont have any debt with them. will i pay them myself still or will CCCS pay them also on my behalf?
Any help is appreciated
Many thanks
Kathy
Hi Kathy,
Your rent, food etc are all priority expenditure so you will pay these as normal. Your appointment will be to discuss your options, as a debt management plan is just one of the options that could be available to you.
Hope this helps

Hi Sarah !
I've been in an I.V.A. for about a year now and was wondering if it was alright for me to start saving some money each month? The amount would be around £200. I know that this would be seen on my credit file, but could the companies i owe, try to break the agreement thats in place?
Hi Boyd,
£200 seems quite a lot of money spare whilst on an IVA; I would suggest you contact your insolvency Practitioner if you have had a change of circumstances.I am a Debt Counsellor that works for the CCCS and have specific permission from Martin, to post on these boards to try and help those in debt. Hi-
We have had our DMP for about a year now. We were paying £100 a month but have been asked to reduce the payment to £82 as otherwise it looks like have more money than we do. We are still accumulating interest and charges on our accounts and our debt has not decreased.
We are about 40k in debt (unsecured) and I am feeling really hopeless about it. Even if I were to double our monthly payment it would take about 16 years to pay off, assuming we we ever start to actually pay it down. I've recently gotten two extra jobs and would like to save some of the extra money so that I can make a settlement offer to our creditors. Is this a good idea at this point?
I don't know what else to do, bar going bankrupt. Maybe we need to consider this?
Thanks
Hi Erin,
I would recommend you have a review of your account again to discuss all the options that are available to you. Your DMP provider will be able to then discuss these options in detail and see if bankruptcy is an option.I am a Debt Counsellor that works for the CCCS and have specific permission from Martin, to post on these boards to try and help those in debt. I have been on a DMP since July. everything has been going reasonably well although I had a lot of problems with HSBC initially. I had a call from them today, they said they had parked my account for 3 months but that is now over so they confirmed I will start receiving phone calls again. (it used to be 3 x daily) I explained that I was at work but they continued the call for 16 minutes and then said they would phone me tomorrow because they need to do an up to date income and expenditure. They appeared to be putting pressure on me to take their managed loan, I explained that I could not because as they are aware, I am on a DMP. The woman also had the audacity to ask if I had family or friends who could pay the debt for me. The though of the telephone ringing 3 x daily from 9am to 9pm is really upsetting me. I am trying my hardest to pay these dates but they just fail to understand how difficult this can be with what I feel is undue pressure and charges which will make it take so much longer to pay off.
I'm sorry I kind ranted more than I expected but the main question was supposed to be about the managed loan and whether or not they can force you to take this by stating that they wil continue to charge interest and additional charges if you do not take it out?

hi
DH's business has had to close. So he is now unemployed but looking for work.
I just want to make sure I am doing everything I can and doing it right!
Dh has rung up to sign on for JSA and has a meeting at the local job centre on monday aswell. (I don't get why he has to do both?)
We have had one meeting at the Citizens Advice and have to wait until the 30th march until we can go and see the right person to discuss what to do (the person we saw was jsut to check we had the right benefits).
I am in the process of ringing up all our creditors and mortgage provider to say we have no money and will pay them £1 this month until we have our meeting with CAB and can put something formal into place, Will be paying £100 on the mortgage instead of £598, they said they will accept that this month, but I have been sent an expenditure form so we can sort something more official.
We have tried to lower our tarrifs on mobiles as we currently pay £75 p/m they wont let us, so I will be ringing to say we can't pay. I know we will be cut off, but what else can they do?
will be canceling net, depending on charge for leaving contract.
Dh is going to try and get the finance company to take the van back as he needed it for work but, obviously, doesn't now. where do I stand legally with this?
DH's grandparents have offered us £500 so we can pay off washing machine so at least that won't be taken. can we pay it off, even though we are only paying £1.00 on all other finances? or will it cause problems?
We are hoping we are eligible for the goverment scheme where they pay the interest part of our mortgage for 2 years, which is nearly all of it, but I have a feeling our council aren't doing it. Though that may be something else. Its all quite confusing! if we can get this we will hopefully manage to keep our house.
anything else I need to do? Or any other advice?Make £5 a day in May £8.90 / 850
