DVD rental providers feedback

Just to add my two penn'orth I have tried Blockbuster and LoveFilm, both unlimited packages.
Blockbuster - terrible turnaround times sometimes 5 working days between post and dispatch. However I have had mostly my top selections, so long as they weren't new releases (haven't had ANY of those). They don't have as many films as LoveFilm however.
LoveFilm - fantastic turnaround times, I can post at 4.30 on Monday and have a film back by first post Wednesday. I haven't kept a huge queue (30ish films max) and haven't always got my top choice but at least I got one of my queue pretty quickly. Customer service for anything out of the ordinary is however useless - obviously an Asian call/internet centre. Any response which isn't a form letter has been virtually unintelligible and quite obvious that the customer sevice person does not have English as a first language.0 -
 On the 26th Feb I registered for the 2 week trial, after registration my husband was surfing the net and found a better deal. So I went back in and cancelled the membership. All in the space of 20 mins. Therefore no DVD was sent out.
The following day the months feer was taken from my account.
I tried to log back into the site but could not log in. I searched for a contact number to phone them but there was not one (Does anyone know the number ??)
I then decided to email them. The replied telling me that nothing has been deducted from my account and that as requested my account is now closed. I have replied enclosing a screenshot of my online statement which clearly shows the deduction. I have also informed them that I am giving them 3 days to refund my money (2 days longer than the time it took them to deduct it!) and if this is not done I will seek legal advise.
Has anyone else had a bad experience with this company???
If you look at my earlier posts you will learn that I hate Lovefilm:
I have been waiting over 2 months for many of my first choice selections.
When it comes to more recent releases Lovefilm just does not deliver.
I let the list run down a bit in order that my selection are onyl films I really want to see and I get endless emails telling me to top up my list.
I add a few titles so the list is not too small and what happens?
still no priority titles. I then receive only the less important ones that I just added.
They obviously dont stock up according to demand
They are rubbish.
I was in a 3 months for one offer and about 6 weeks ago I tried to cancel my account by phone and I was offerred another 3 months for one. This I accepted
With their slow turnaround and lack of priority movies 3 for one os the only way you get anywhere close to having value for money

I have just tarted a one month free trial from Blockbuster, Lovefilm, Amazon and Cinema Paradiso respectively. Here are my experiences from each provider.
Blockbuster: By far the best of the bunch in my experience. The account was set up and activated very quickly and my first DVDs sent out on the same day of joining the 3 Unlimited trial. Very fast turn around in the post for everything on my list and I even received DVDs immediately that the website told me I would have to wait for. The biggest advantage of Blockbuster I found was that they consider 2 disc sets as 1 rental. For example, order 3 TV series each with 2 DVDs and they will send you 6 discs in the post. None of the other companies I used did this as they considered each physical disc as a single rental.
With the fast turn around and the extra DVDs included, I received far more DVDs in my one month than from any of the other providers. The only down sides were that they occasionally sent some series out of sequence, despite asking for them in order, and a few of the discs were unplayable due to being in poor condition. Cancelling was also easy and painless.
Lovefilm: Very slow to activate the account after registering for the 3 Unlimited free trial, taking nearly a week to receive my first discs, but generally good at the postal turnaround. They also send out discs at the weekend which Blockbuster didn't.
Despite warning of a long delay for some films, I received almost everything quickly. Some new releases were even delivered within a couple of days of release. Like Blockbuster, they also sent some duff, unplayable discs and the odd series out of sequence, but pretty good on the whole and a good number of DVDs within the trial period. Cancelling easy and trouble-free.
Amazon: Amazon did not offer an unlimited free trial so I could only get 6 discs during the free period. Surprisingly, Amazon did not have quite a few of the DVDs I was looking for, but what they did have were good quality and I didn't have to wait. Cancelling brought no problems.
Cinema Paradiso: The least beneficial of all the trials as they were only offering 4 DVDs for free. Their administration of the account was okay and the 4 discs were received and sent back in a matter of days. Nothing else to be said of them, really.
I work odd hours and, to add insult to injury, I'm an insomniac. Needless to say, I don't watch much on the TV but get through a truckload of DVDs every month. For this reason, of the above 4 companies I would choose Blockbuster if I were to pay for the service. I received far more DVDs from them than from the other players within my one month trial, and as Stalin once noted 'quantity has a quality all of its own'
Right then, who else can we use for some freebies?0 -
I signed up to Tesco dvd rentals on Monday night. They still haven't sent me any titles. How long should it take??0

Depends on what titles you have chosen. I have been with them for a few months now and although the turn around time is pretty good for the majority of the list it isn't that good for top titles.
I must admit I am thinking of switching.0 -
hi
my twopennyworth about mymoviestream.com who offer a 2 week free trial and a free dvd1
Frankly its terible.I have been with them for 5 weeks now and I have recieved 11 dvds at the same time. The turnover is bad and they just don't have enough numbers to send the dvds.It takes 3-4 days for dvds to reach them and another 3-4 days for you to recieve them. They want you list those dvds which are 'available now '.Unfortunately that means you have a choice of some old movies and unless you have been avoding movies for the last 20 years you don't have much of a choice!
As far as why I continued with them......purely obligation after agreeing to recieve the free dvd! I felt awful to take the free trial and a fee dvd and then leave them!Howeve the free dvd is yet to reach me as they it can take upto 1 month to recieve them.
My suggestion:avoid them like the plague1 They do have some vague award put up as having been number one dvd rental company but please do not be fooled by them.

Hi,
Has anyone else had any problems with 1dvd.co.uk? My housemates and I have been members for a while but after a while the DVDs just stopped coming. The phone number they provide isn't operational and they haven't been replying to emails.
They are, of course, still debiting the money though. Have they gone bust? Are they a dodgy company? Does anyone know?
Thanks!0 -
I have used Lovefilm with no problems - even after the intro period had ended i got regular and fast dvd's.
I used amazon - but 1 dvd got back late cos of a postal strike that i didn't realise was gonna happen, and they charged my 3x my monthly package!
Easydvd is part of the lovefilm family and they are slower than other dvd packages i have used - but i was getting the latest dvds.0
