I signed up for the Lovefilm trial. At the end of it I forgot to cancel so I got charged. Ok, my fault for not canceling so I just decided to use them for another month and make sure I'd cancelled in time next month.

I got the DVDs returned in plenty of time, made sure the DVDs were removed from my rental list and completed the cancellation. I just checked my statement and they've charged me for another month! I've logged into my account and it still appears to be open!

I can't find any emails confirming cancelation but I definitly cancelled. What can I do?

From what I hear a lot of people get stung by lovefilm in this way.

    I advise everyone to.
    1. remove all items from your list before sending last titles back.
    2. Make sure you send your last titles back to arrive before your billing date
    3. Keep checking your account. As soon as your remaining titles show up as returned proceed with cancellation.
    4. Phone them and ask them to verify that they have actually closed your account and get the name of the person you are speaking to.
    5. While on the phone say yopu want an email confirmation that your account is closed
    6. For good measure send them a recorded delivery letter stating that all dvd's are returned and you wish to cancel before your billing date. Send it first class at least 2 days before billing date.

Timing is important and allow for weekends

It sounds like a lot of hassle but then far less than if you get billed and have to argue it out with them afterwards

I have found LoveFilm to be pretty good. For those that find the best titles not to be readily available, its because of the poor algorithm used to maximise availability. For example, if you have 100 unique disks in your list and someone else has 10, they will get the DVD before you IF the other items in their list they cannot get. However, its also possible they can get shipped nothing.

Other than not being able to get the latest films easily, LoveFilm are fairly good now. I certainly find them more than okay.

Lovefilm are incredibly slow - it is nigh on impossible to get two deliveries in a week.
I left them for Blockbuster - but got annoyed at Blockbusters inability to supply anything decent - and upon complain all I got was a "put more titles in your list". However if I have seen everything I wanna see I am not going to fill my list with dross.

I left them and went back to Lovefilm (via screenselect when they were bought out).

Screenselect were much better when they were screenselect - as lovefilm are so very slow to send out new discs...I struggle to get 3 discs a week (on unlimited 3). High street shops should take note and offer a subscription service...I'd take it.
Oh and lovefilm are robbing so and so's as well. They want to charge me extra to add games to my service - but they won;t let me pick how many films/games I have out at a time. I would want to split it so I always had one game and 2 DVD's - to maximise the service - however they said they will just send whatever they want...fools

Anyhow I have switched to Tesco (which is lovefilm in disguise) because it is marginally cheaper - and as a new customer I know that my first month or two will be ok.

However now looking for another provider - speed of turnaround is the all important element (of any of you read this!)

As for codes they change them frequently, try these, at least one of these was working 10 days ago as I used it

    Can't remember which one, sorry.

I just used the first one and it gave me 1 month free, forgot to mention that in my post above.

I went through the cancellation again. I noticed I had to agree to some terms and then click cancel again, must have missed that last time. Still, I think Lovefilm have made it confusing when it comes to cancelling. I feel like emailing and phoning them until I feel happy that they £13.97 made from me has been lost in man hours.
  • Here is my opinion of the 2 DVD rental services I have used so far. Firstly I was with Screenselect, and they were great, I got fairly top choice films and they were delivered quickly enough that I could get through 4 films a week on their 2 films at a time package, for £12.99 a month.

As soon as they were taken over by Lovefilm, standards started to slip, it took ages for films to show up as returned and even longer for new films to be sent out - I could post a film back on Monday, and not receive something new until Friday. Also, the films I received were normally "fillers" that I had put down as low priority. So, I cancelled with them. I personally didn't have any problems cancelling, but I did clear my list completely before returning my last lot of discs and then cancel at 4am when I got up for work, so I didn't have to phone them.

I have now been with Blockbuster for a little over a month. So far so good. Discs are sent out quickly, and I've so far only had films from my top 20 films in order of priority. I also seem to be getting better quality discs, no dirty or scratched ones. It's slightly more expensive at £14.99 a month, but I now get 3 discs at a time, and as my trial period came to an end, they offered me 3 months for the price of 2, which I have paid for in advance.
  • I'm with Blockbuster and have to say I'm well and truly impressed with their service.
I currently have a waiting list of about 35 titles, and almost every rental I've had has come from the top 7/8 of that list.
    As for turnaround - OUTSTANDING!!!

I've just posted 2 back this morning and I know I'll have 2 more by Wednesday morning.

It probably helps that the postal address for returning the DVDs is only about 10 miles from my house, so stuff's not travelling all over the country.

With Lovefilm and others I tended to find I'd have a gap of a 3/4 days between returning and receiving.
Also noticed with Lovefilm & ScreenSelect that they sent you the newer titles when you were on their trial, but when you actually started paying, you ended up with the lower end of the list!

 On the 26th Feb I registered for the 2 week trial, after registration my husband was surfing the net and found a better deal. So I went back in and cancelled the membership. All in the space of 20 mins. Therefore no DVD was sent out.

The following day the months feer was taken from my account.

I tried to log back into the site but could not log in. I searched for a contact number to phone them but there was not one (Does anyone know the number ??)

I then decided to email them. The replied telling me that nothing has been deducted from my account and that as requested my account is now closed. I have replied enclosing a screenshot of my online statement which clearly shows the deduction. I have also informed them that I am giving them 3 days to refund my money (2 days longer than the time it took them to deduct it!) and if this is not done I will seek legal advise.

Has anyone else had a bad experience with this company???
