Windows Aero Base Score Only 2.4. Slow Pc!!!!

Hi ,
i got a laptop only in july and it has windows basic vista on it.Suddenly it has started to load pages very slowly.I looked at help pages and checked windows base score.processsor and memory score are over 4.However the graphics desk top performance s only rated at 2.4
So how do a fasten up the laptop. Is aero too fancy for my laptop?
its only a 1GB memory ram.
Any technical avice or how to tweak it would be appreciated.I changed display already to vista classic - i read that on some help page, but no change.
Many thanks

1GB ram is the bare min for vista but should run fine.....you could upgrade it that will speed it up, but keeping ontop of clearing out internet files, temp files also helps, removing unused programs etc

Using a antispyware to remove junk etc??

not removing all this stuff can slow down your laptop

My pc had a low aero score yet all the rest was high the only thing that improved it was a better graphics card....which is almost impossible to do with a laptop

the other thing to do would be to add an extra Gig of RAM, and up the shared graphics memory, that'll boost your aero rating

  • Thanks folks.I do disk clean and run malware regularly.
I had Microsoft office on it ,but only as a trial so I downloaded open office org for free to edit docs.Could this have hindered its performane.Dont want to remove the "Microsoft office trial version" incase i cant view word doc properly.
Looking for best deal on a basic Microsoft Office package.2003 would be fine.
Looking on Ebay and "software for student" websites as I work at a school. Could get pack for £40.Is that about the best deal?
    Many thanks. x

    Definitely increase your RAM.

If you are eligible, you can take advantage of The Ultimate Steal @ 38.95

You will also have the opportunity to move up to Vista Ultimate for 40.95

aero is more of a graphics based score......however ram will improve your speed

very easy......go onto www.crucial.com (select uk) and do a scan (it'll say something like scan my system) let it scan and it will tell you what ram you need to buy

you can either buy from them or search the net (google) but i like crucial very much as its pretty cheap and a well known site

when it comes through look at your laptop manual and it'll show you how to insert the new ram (very very )easy

and then thats it as simple as that....DON'T BUY FROM PC WORLD OR YOU WILL BE RIPPED OFF ON THE PRICE!!!

  • Thanks Cat , went on site did scan and saw what I could buy...
laptop manual/crappy booklet doesnt mention fitting RAM.
Is it something i just slot in the side or does it require the laptop to be opened up???
Im the clumsiest girl in the world so wouldnt like to have to try that for fear of breaking it completely.lol.
Am off to bed to dream of times gone by when a calculator was the most technical item I had......

Maybe you could tell us about the laptop to which you are referring? Brand model and number.
