Hi,
We love mercs, its not so much the showing off value, its just to kind of say we buy quality, we usually buy less than 3 years old and run them until there dead, old mercs used to be good for 300,000 and new ones are better than range in between. Go for the avantgarde they generally hold there money better and on the basis that the depreciations gonna be lower, might cost you less in the long run.
Hope this helps... jp0 -

I just can't get excited about the current shape 5 Series.
The drivers seat doesn't go up high enough if you're under 6ft. The build quality is far from what it was on the shape that ran from late 2000-2003.
Mechanically they are fine - we've not had any coming back yet for any warranty items.
Manual boxes are a long throw, so better off with an auto.
But I still would'nt buy a Merc...0 -

I cannot accept an Audi, probably would not do a Merc. either so I would head back to better value for money cars of this kind of size if I wasn't spending BMW money. A Mazda 6 is hot on the heals of BMW for the drive and you can get a 2.5i or 2.3i (older shape) or even the older MPS if you must have power.0 -
Mercedes are not good0

I bought a Mercedes in 2005 for £5000. Running costs have been about....hardly anything...per year. It's lost about half it's value in those 3 years, and at 220,000 miles is only half-way through its life.
Every time I see someone in an Astra VXR I think "Terminal torque steer".0 -
I wouldnt think an E200 has much poke to it though, they are heavy cars and thats a small engine.
My old man used to have an E class of that age, absolutly no problems at all, he traded it in for a CLS last year, same story.0
