Connecting wireless laptop and PC

Sorry, I'm not really knowledgable enough on routers to advise someone. I know what they do, and good places to buy them (www.ebuyer.com or www.dabs.com).Scouse337 wrote:Thx, which do i go for now??! lol
Make sure it is a modem router. All should do exactly the same things though (share internet connection, files and printers).0 -
Just to clarify an earlier post regarding printers, "all routers will support printers.." if the router only has ethernet ports, either the printer will need a network card installed (unusual for a home printer), or you will have to share the printer off the back of a switched on PC (either usb or parallel connection)
The netgear DG834G has 4 ethernet ports, and wireless only..Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Yep, sorry... I could see no mention of printers in the previous posts so I presumed the OP just meant a printer attached to the other computer.albertross wrote:Just to clarify an earlier post regarding printers, "all routers will support printers.." if the router only has ethernet ports, either the printer will need a network card installed (unusual for a home printer), or you will have to share the printer off the back of a switched on PC (either usb or parallel connection)0 -
Gizmo,
NP.., I know.., it's easy too lose track of all the details posted in a particular thread, over a period of days, and can get tiring re-reading everything.. Just didn't want scouse to go out and buy a Netgear, and then be dissapointed, after all this... (especially after I said they were ok..)Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Thanks again for those comments, a little bit over my head now(sorry)
So what do i go for? My printer will be attached to the Desktop PC by usb!
Sorry again for being so thick!

Then it can be shared using any router, so just don't think about itScouse337 wrote:Thanks again for those comments, a little bit over my head now(sorry)

What's the make and model of your printer, Scouse337?0

Scouse,
It's upto you in the end, it's your money.. any ADSL broadband wireless router will do the job, so it all comes down to how much you are prepared to spend, where you are going to buy it from, and whether you want a "famous brand" product, or not..
Assuming that you have a BT phone line (not cable), the Netgear DG834G isn't the cheapest available, but will do the job, and is from a well known company. £65 from ebuyer..
The printer will work, but it will be plugged into your main PC as it is now, (AND THAT PC WILL HAVE TO BE SWITCHED ON FOR ANYONE ELSE TO PRINT FROM A DIFFERENT PC), which is hardly the end of the world..Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Printer is an Epson Photo 895
