If it was me I'd prefer to give the refund myself but if paypal are already involved why don't you just ask the buyer to return the jeans so once paypal have finished their investigations either they will refund or you can if they don't.

Paypal technically don't refund though, all they do is withdraw the money direct from the seller's account. It is best not to fight these claims where you are in the wrong as it just antagonises the buyer, just wait for goods to come back and refund promptly, very often that means the buyer is happy and doesn't leave a neg.

I've just checked a transaction I've got on my account with held money (buyer reclaimed from bank I'm not sure why yet) and it doesn't look like you can refund in the usual way when this happens. I think the OP is worried about losing the money twice so if it's not possible to refund yourself through the original transaction I would wait until the claim is finalised.

The OP though has a SNAD dispute which is different to a claim for fraudulent use. They can refund in full by returning the original payment and that is one option given for stopping the claim.

Update: The dispute appeared early yesterday evening, so I'm guessing that it was just a lag / glitch that stopped it appearing straight away. I followed the steps through to a screen with 3 options. "Refund the Buyer", "Refuse Refund but Continue Communicating with Buyer" and "Escalate to Paypal Claim". I chose the 2nd option as I don't yet have the jeans back. I also sent him the same message as before stating that I would be happy to issue a full refund upon return of the jeans and apologising for the mix up.

Just another little query. Why, when I want to "Add Funds" to my Paypal Account, it takes over a week, but when I make a purchase with a Paypal balance of £0, it will dip into my "Back up Funding Option" and clear that payment immediately......even though the "Back up Funding Option" is the same account I was trying to use to "Add Funds"?
