As already said above I was also not impressed with the letter, however they are obviously within their rights to do so!

There is a small saving to be made for me for switching however I have also found their customer service department very friendly and helpful, its a free phone number, and the bills are extremely easy to read. Its nice to get the 1 month bonus too, as I always forget about it!!

    Just my 2p's worth.

Make sure that your bonus actually arrives in your bank account. Mine didn't. When I phoned Atlantic they admitted they had a problem and were having to rely on customers contacting them. Bonus arrived a few days later. I'll be staying with them -- at least for the time being.

  • I'm thankful that I moved away from Atlantic in early August (with the final bill received and a refund due for charges upto and including 5th September 2008 for both gas and electric) to Eon on a fixed price tariff. Can I still be charged?

I haven't had any demands for payment.

    Foxy.
  • I must say I agree re comments about Atlantic's customer service - and I like their one-to-one messenger service on line, which is superb. You really feel you are connecting with someone who cares!:T Maybe it's worth staying with Atlantic just for this service alone - have to re-think the options!!!
  • It's heartening when a company responds in the way that you have just stated. More evidence that Atlantic has really got a heart. Well done Atlantic!!:j

I am also with Atlantic and wrote to them about the rise after receiving their letter in September. I asked them how are them going to work out my account if my meter is read every 6 months and due to be read again in November. How do they calculate my usage from August to November. Am I missing something here? I did actually take a meter reading of my electricity in September - but they don't know that.

They have a computer program that estimates the meter readings on the date of the price rise.

If you feel that it is inaccurate, they will almost certainly accept your readings - it is just not worth their while to dispute and discrepancy, unless they feel you have deliberately 'inflated' your reading; they might come and read the meter in that case.

On my recent gas bill (July - October) Atlantic have applied a "straight" pro rata of the kWh's over the number of days for the account. They do not appear to have applied any weighting for the colder weather during the second half the account covers. Because of the time of the year I feel this favours the customer, and presumably will reduce the number of complaints.

This is in contrast with the price increase earlier in the year when they applied weighting, and I for one complained as I had the readings for the day the prices increased. Atlantic did finally agree I had a point and used my readings to adjust my account for the units used at the appropriate price.
  • I have just done a price comparison on Uswitch who recommended Scottish Power with a £54 saving but when I have gone in and compared unit prices Scottish Power is still more expensive. I think they give you duff info just to make money! I am staying put, looks like Atlantic are just bringing themselves in line with the other suppliers, but they are still cheaper then the other big boys!

Also with Atlantic ( Gas & Electric) and haven't received a letter yet.

I just phoned them and after a 3 minute wait I spoke to someone very friendly from customer services.

They have put in a request for a letter to be sent.

There doesn't seem to be any benefit for me to change.

Does anyone else get their "loyalty bonus" of one months direct debit payment back? Just wondered whether this would overall still make them cheaper as we get around £60 back a year? (as I'm annoyed too!)

I have received my loyalty bonus every year from Atlantic.
Does the comparison sites take this in to account when they make the comparison. If they don't then Atlantic work out the cheapest for me.
