Own, with mortgage, equityIf I use the price I paid 4 years ago, then I own a bit over 2/3 and the Building Society own just less than a 1/3. They can have the garage; it needs a good clear out!0

Own outright, no mortgageHome owner, mortgage free since volunteering for redundancy back in 2001. Now waged again, but for how long in Clown's busted Britain.0

sounds wonderful. did you learn lots of French and Italian?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
rent - privatePrivate renting plus living during the week in subsidised lodgings plus a huge amount of STUFF in storage.
Life's a bit too messy to buy somewhere at the moment but I would like a garden, and shelves that fix to the wall. But then I also want a campervan and a new macbook and more letters after my name and a bottle of gin, sometimes you just need to WAIT.
Sold to rent last year but as I have said before, luck/circumstance rather than judgment.
As for the comments about social/LA/HA housing, IMO there's not enough of it in this country and selling off of council housing without replacing it is part of the reason we are in the mess we're in now. Certainly wouldn't look down on someone who lives in such and have indeed rented from a HA myself in the past.0 -
rent - privateI'm almost fluent in Italian and my (spoken) French was coming along nicely too.
The Boo can manage a - horribly precocious - curtsey and 'bonjour Monsieur / Madame' but her speciality is 'ciao Nonno, ti voglio tanto bene' (hi Grandad, I love you very much).Peek-a-boo0 -

Hear, hear. My job brings me into contact with a lot of people who are vulnerably housed, and I have to tell most that they'll spend months if not years waiting to get enough points on the council housing register. Unfortunately this means that the private sector is the quickest route - but a large number will refuse Housing Benefit tenants. I'd dearly like to see an expansion of good quality social housing stock, both local authorities and housing associations, but in a good mix of houses and flats and spread around different locations, not in huge estates.Mortgage-Free Wannabe!

other (there's always one....)Im another that falls into the "other" category
Me & OH (engaged, not yet married) sold the flat I had ( i resist saying the word bought!!) It was shared ownership. We rented for a year and now we are living in very low cost tied accomodation with my job. Our overheads are ridiculously low, and we live in a great massive flat, and we couldnt be happier. Im thrilled with the advice from this forum that allowed me to understand that owning 4 walls is not the be all & end all.
I dont believe that buying a house increases stability, indeed I have experienced it being the opposite. Never quite knowing if the mortgage could be paid is profoundly unsettling. I am certain I would have been reposessed by now if Id stayed there.
Security for me comes with knowing actually we can make anywhere a home as long as weve got each other, thats all we needMind you Im in my 36th house at 31 years old. My parents loved moving too
OH isnt quite keen though, hes had 5 addresses in the 3 years weve known each other
but he knows there will be many more :j and I think hes getting into the idea now
Weve been toying with the idea of going abroad for a while, and I'm so glad that we have zero ties.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

Own, with mortgage, equityWhat about owning and possessing a huge BTL empire of 875 of Ashford properties that you want to sell
The poll doesn't quite have the right box to tick :rotfl:0 -
Own, with mortgage, equityown with a mortgage, some equity. i would gladly rent it out and move to where i want to live and rent there, until i can get a buyer for mine (NO VIEWINGS IN 4 MONTHS), BUT, i have 2 cats and im not prepared to take just anywhere, just because its the only place that will accept animals and i also do not want some landlord using my cats as a reason to steal my deposit when i move out.0
