That's because you are sweet and look at the whole situation. An awful lot of people on here seem to have a preconceived idea that if you are in H/A or council then you don't work, have loads of kids and are a chav.

Ah, but that's because they're idiots who have only known the economic protection provided by their parents and the boom economy provided by the Labour Government. Once they go through some hard times they'll hopefully learn a little tolerance and gain an understanding of the words: "There, but for the grace of God, go I".

Well if someone thinks less of you for living in social housing, it's an easy way of avoiding someone who you wouldn't want to waste your time on anyway.

I usually just lurk, but as you asked so nicely...

Until 18 months ago we (DH & I) owned outright> We sold, spent a year touring in a caravan with DD, now aged 4, and a couple of months ago we rented (privately) a house just in time for DD to start school.

We are avidly checking house prices 2 or 3 times each week and waiting with baited breath.

I rent. Smallest/cheapest place I could (money's better off in my pocket than a landlord's, the council tax', the utility companies, the insurance company) - the bigger the place, the bigger the bills. Until I get settled in a job I can't even think about buying. And I have no idea which town/county any future job might be in, where I feel happy enough with the location that I want to buy. But I never intended to buy before 2012 anyway.

It is possible that along the way I will need to be paying for two homes. Wherever I live and wherever I work, until a permanent job means I can at least rent where I work.

France mostly, househunting and watching the pound/euro scenario devalue our income to the point where we could have gone but not lived in the manner to which we would have liked to become accostomed.

Spent some time in Italy, close(r) to family and had a few weeks in South Belgium.

Came back to Blighty occasionally to keep an eye on the rest if the family.

We've settled in Lincolnshire for a few years. DD was getting very restless and wanted friends that she could meet 'over and over again'.

We had good times and bad but there is a lot to be said for not packing up and moving on every 2 weeks.

Good luck with that AD. You've certainly seem to have taken all this in your stride, and I think you'll come out of it even stronger - both financially and emotionally. I always admire people who have set backs but instead of wallowing in it, they just roll up their sleeves and get on with sorting it out. Respect.

Thanks DD, thats very kind of you to take the time to say that, shows that their are decent folk in the world, even ones you don't know.

I'm a bit complicated (beats being simple I suppose), we rent and have done since 1999. I split from my ex husband 1997. Sold house which had a small mortgage in 1999 and took half of equity and rented with my now husband.
Put money into business start up......2002 bought Dads house outright to give him cash because he was struggling financially after Mums death.....2004 my husband has heart attack at 41 (survived)......2005 Dad comes to live with us and we sell his house.....The future ?, if it becomes possible will try and help daughter buy to be near us but houses will have to drop 30% from peak to make this affordable. I love my rented house. A x
    Don't believe everything you think.

Blessed are the cracked...for they are the ones who let in the light. A x
