Do you own? Rent? Other?

Interested to see the differences here. Pure nosiness.

I rent, and right now I'm well happy about that especially as the LL's already paid off the mortgage.

Although I'm sure some private renter's may well be worried.

After my divorce (2 months ago), I was going to rent, but my mum lives on her own (in an owned outright house), we get on well and she asked me to come and stay with her for as long as I want.

Considering after my divorce women are off my wish list for a while:D, I took up the offer. So saving like mad at the moment, will hopefully be able to buy a detached house in a year or two, either outright or with around a 20k mortgage tops.

We own half a house, the bank own the other half lol! We bought for £180k and put down just over half as a deposit. With the way prices are dropping here, the bank own a little more than us every day, so we need to pay a little more to retain our 'share'.

We live in a privately-rented 2-bed terraced house - now well over the initial 6 months tenancy but no signs the landlord is thinking of kicking us out! I'm fairly happy with the amount we pay - could probably already afford to buy somewhere similar to this house, but 3-beds are beginning to drop into our price range so we're holding on.

Although I STR'd at the end of 2005, I also own 3 and a half (don't get me started about the half) other properties outright i.e. no mortgages. Two of these are BTL's bought over 10 years ago.

    I ticked other...

I moved in with my partner nearly 4 years ago, house is in his name but I wouldn't class myself as a 'lodger' ;)

He bought 12 years ago, and we are aiming to have paid off the mortgage in 5 or 6 years.

I rent, don't live in uk, I'm happy renting because I can move to another country when I feel the need without a pile of bricks to keep me tied down
  • Own, with mortgage, equity
I own 3 properties, all with a mortgage and all with plenty of equity (more than 50% equity)
2 of the properties I rent out and have had a total of 2 weeks void in the last 2 years due to a tenant leaving mid month and the new tenant starting at the beginning of the next month.
The 3rd property I live in is overseas, but my company pay an allowance for my living accomodation, so they are paying the mortgage at a fast track rate (3 years to go)

I won two properties one of which I rent out but I'm thinking that once the market picks up I'll sell both and rent myself. This has been a wake up call for me. If I had been renting I wouldn't have had all this worry.
