She's being done about 9th April, i'll be back on here worrying to death about her  I'm wondering how she'll be when she gets to the desperate to get to a male stage, will she go bonkers when I go out!? lolll still at least now I know she's not done instead of wondering.

Just had to say a friend of mine is adopting a dog tomorrow (I think she said tomorrow) so that's two dogs homed for xmas! Her dog comes from a place that has boarding kennels too & the owners dropped her off as a boarder & never bothered to collect her, she's only about 18 months old!

Im always amazed when I hear this, but I hear it quite a lot. We had a beautiful English Bull Dog just dumped at a boarding kennels and never collected. Those dogs cost up to £1k - apart from the money - how on earth could someone leave a dog and walk away knowing they were never going back. Its beyond belief.

I know! I think there's a hand in fee & a waiting list if you give a pet up, there was when one of my cats had to be rehomed but no way was I gonna advertise him online or in the papers, I thought if people could be bothered to pay a higher price, be home checked etc then they must be willing (I'd hope) to give him a good home, so if it's the same now, maybe they thought what a good way to escape a waiting list & hand in fee

She's an approximately 18 month old, Tri Colour, Border Collie called Sparkie, maybe the old owners didn't know how much work Collies can be? idk what goes through peoples minds!

Sorry I have some more silly questions! I just read that a dog in heat can scratch through doors to get out, please tell me she won't get out of the house?! Also, do Vets give painkillers after? Does it hurt them? Spaying I mean! lol
  • Hiya, Its important to realise that a dogs season isnt much like a human period - unlike us its their most fertile time and lasts for about three weeks, with the bleeding really only being present in the first week. My mums dog recently had a season - was rehomed by my mum in april, had a season in june and has since been speyed.

In that time she was walked normally but on lead and didnt have any serious problems from males (although a young male bull mastiff seems to have a bit of a crush on her in general - however, she is a lurcher so he cant catch up with her! lol! - but my mum kept her to areas where she wasnt so likely to meet lots of dogs). When she got to the stage where she started finding the chaps attractive she became a bit loopy - really fussy, wanting attention and sticking her bum towards random people! tart!!:rotfl:

However, this stage only lasted for about a week, then if you allow another week for everything to settle back down they are soon back to normal!
