And you get access to a dietician when you are first diagnosed. Mine was rubbish and didn't have a clue but you could get lucky. And you'll be able to join coeliac society. They've got a website but you can only become a member if you are medically diagnosed. Hope this helps.Proud to be dealing with my debtsLBM - September 2007Total debt £20,729 :eek:0

The GF Brownies are delicious (recipe was on a bag of Doves flour) but unfortunately I managed to open oven before they'd set so they sunk but very yummy. Havent had time for anything elseMortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!0

thankyou all very much for your helpful words. yes i know i have to be medically diagnosed but i have to eat gluten for 4-6 weeks to get a good result at the GP's and then need a biopsy from the hospital. This can all take such a long time and i'd be off sick from work, but i dont get paid sick leave so it would be an expensive diagnosis!!?
is it better to just have a GF diet if it works for me?
do you get flour on prescription if you are not a caeliac but have an allergy to glute and wheat?0 -
Hi, you cant get flour and other GF stuff on prescription if you are not coeliac, not sure what the situation is if its a true allergy (where you have an anaphalactic reaction), if its just a sensitivity too it as similar to IBS symptoms, I doubt that you will get anything (a friend of mine cant)
Meal recipes I find are quite easy to find that dont have flour. Sauces can be made with cornflour instead of wheat flour, and as previously said can adapt recipes using GF flour. Havent had any more time to bake. Sorry.
PS have just posted an easy recipe on another thread for Tuna Tomato stew which is delicious and GF
Also Tesco health pages have some good info for starting out GF http://www.tesco.com/healthMortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!0 -

can only re-iterate what the others say, please get an official diagnosis, it's most important for your health, I know for a couple of weeks you won't feel great, but it's worth it long time for the support you'll get.
Also, I'm not sure you can have an allergy to gluten, coeliacs are actually intolerant to it, not strictly allergic.
Once officially diagnosed you'll get most basics on prescription, along with any other relevant checks, ie iron levels, osteoporosis etc.0 -

I echo that....
I'm Coeliac.
I made some Apple Crumble for the 1st time 2day using GF Flour and apples from my tree. Cheap & Delicious with GF Custard.
I make most of my food fresh and buy quite a bit from Aldi as they have very clear Gluten Free labelling. I also get things on prescription (I have pre-paid for 12 months - as I'm on Warfarin for life this makes financial sense).I am NOT a Woman! - its Overland Landy (as in A Landrover that travels Overland)
Better to be approximately right than precisely wrong.0
