Thanks for the planting plan, I'm a bit shocked at how early you can get your early pototoes in. Last frost in March? I want to have some of that, our last frost is in early June, although usually the last serious one is in late May.
Is the place where the tomatoes are a polytunnel and if so why do you grow courgettes in there?
Do you have a plan on when to sow things? I'm planning to do one myself this year, which hopefully will be better than the back of an envelope thing I normally do.]
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

What i tend to do is cover the soil in Feb for a few weeks to warm the soil up i then plant up the potatoes about March time under fleece. We live in a mild area. You have to run with the weather if i knew it was going to be really frosty i would hold back a bit.

Yes the tom's are in a polytunnel, I grow the yellow courgettes from seeds of Italy and find they go great guns in the poly plus because they are in the poly i can plant them earlier. I've been known to plant them in late April. Remember that by having the ploy i can plant things approx. 6 weeks earlier then the guy next to me and at the end of the season my poly will be productive much longer.
    Kind Regards

    Hi,

Instead of emailing everyone, why not upload the document at http://www.yousendit.com/ and then everyone can click the link :)

I really don't mind emailing everyone as i can send a personal reply and people are asking different questions anyway.

I love hearing the different stories about why you are growing veg.

Many thanks to all the kind emails that i'm receiving.
    Kind Regards

  • Thank you so much! I think me and the two littlies might be wellied up in the garden at least one morning a week to see what we can do (well, me - they are very littlies!)

I've never really done gardening. In fact, my mum was offended last time she visited that somebody had watered "her" plants - I'd only remembered to do it because she was visiting! :shhh: So, am I right in assuming that, unless things are shown in your greenhouse and then appear outside after then they are sown straight into the ground?

I'm truly amazed by what you produce on your allotment, and that you find the time

Mumof4, When I requested the plan from you, you mentioned about having beans as an arch so kids can walk through and pick them too.. I am planning on doing this, so thanks for this idea. Do you have any other ideas like this that kids would like..

Any chance of pictures of your allotment too? I love looking at allotment pictures.

Not sure what mumof4 does but I sow seeds into pots or trays - i find the bigger the seedlings are before they go out.. the better they cope with "attacks" from slugs and bugs (unless it is my dog who has developed a liking for pumpkin/butternut squash/courgette/sweetcorn plants   ). I try and do a bit in the garden each day - my littlies love to help sow seeds and plant them out so I make sure they help me do some, if not all of that and then I allocate myself an hour or two while they are at preschool/school or in bed to do anything else that needs doing - nice to have a bit of quiet time for me :)
