Thank you very much for the planting plans and the advice on how to clear our allotment.
One thing I have thought strange from looking at posts on here, where we have just been allocated our allotment, they have one area (approx 20 plots)which they are not opening up until they have enough people wanting one,
Name and shame - the best time to clear a plot is Autumn
I would think it's the same everywhere but in Bristol if you take on an overgrown, so unworkable plot you get the first year free as you are paying rent to use the land to grow produce which can't be done if it's over grown.
If that's all I could get i would still jump at the chance. Think how much you could clear before spring. Even if you only clear 1/3 that's still more growing space than before the plot was up for rent.
I still have some brambles but if you keep cutting off the new growth they will give up. Unlike me;)Kind Regards

yep - grab that plot - you might regret it if you don't!!! I have been on the waiting list for 5 years and the end is still not in sight
my local council are "trying" to find land (not trying very hard I don't think) so that could be a long time too...

Well on this wet and windy day i have caught up with sending answering all your emails and have sent the plans to the people who have requested them.
If you haven't recieved them let me know because i think that I lost three pm's earlier in the week and i can't remember what the forum names were.
Started to plan the book today, and have started my sweetpeas off in root trainers.Kind Regards

i have it in my head that you replace plants every 3 years - you take runners in year 2 to grow on to replace the plants in year 3 (or end of year 3) so yes you replace but you can do it cheaper as you won't have to keep re-buying..
I have 12 strawberry plants in the centre of hanging baskets surrounded by lots of pretty trailing flowers in my garden(lobilia and fushias). anything i plant in the acual garden gets decimated by slugs, however they have never touched the strawberry plants! all of the plants are 7 years old and each year they seem to produce more and more and for a longer season and never seem to die off in the winter either but keep on growing. every year i have been taking runners off them, as i keep being told they have to be replaced however i have ended up giving them away.
My son loves going round every week in the spring/summer searching through them for the ripe strawberries however he eats them as he goes!0 -

I don't surpose you can remember what type they are can you.
and am i correct that you plant the flowers in the same basket as the strawberry plants.Kind Regards

Well I'm going in blind.
I'm going to try sowing some carrots now.
I'm trying two types Amsterdam forcing 3 - sprint and a new type Nantes Frubund (from T&M).
The later says that it can be sown under protection in Autumn and the AF are for baby carrots sown from January but as mine will be in the polytunnel I'm going to try in the morning.
It says on the AF sow outdoors but that early sowings may need protection so if you have a cloche that would do.Kind Regards
