if it's got a usb port could i just plug my ipod in to this and play the music i've stored on there?
Don't see why not, I plugged my MP3 player into the USB and it automatically started playing my stored tracks no problem.

Isn't the Ipod Firewire only?... or do they now have USB interfaces too.

Doesn't the ipod need iTunes for you to access it from your PC? If it does then it won't work.

my ipod didn't even come with a firewire cable, which i was pretty gutted about. it does have a usb connection though. i'm not sure but i don't think itunes would have anything to do with it as that is only used to upload music on to the ipod. i know you can plug ipods in to line in ports on car stereos that have them, but was just wondering if you could do it via usb.
  • Managed to get one just....
When I got to the shop at 10 mins to 8 their were six Somalies allready queing !
They rushed into shop shouting were's the car radios ...where's car radios and proceeded to buy up all 10 that were their !
When they said to one guy from eastern europe in the queue, why don't you have more than one he turned round and said because I've only got one car :xmassmil
Had to complain to get them to limit it to one each. Glares from the ethonics !
These will all be for sale at extortionate prices like previous post.
Getting it fitted soon will give a report.
  • We have got one of these and it seems really good. As for Lidl's I think they are brilliant. We have bought lots of things from there very cheaply and they have always lasted and been of good quality.

As far as I know, the iPod uses proprietary standards, i.e. it doesn't appear as a generic "mass storage device" like a memory pen. Therefore, the radio won't be able to access it. This is paraphrasing "you need iTunes". Moreover, I doubt the radio will play file formats other than mp3 and wav, and possibly wma.
Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.

hmmm, you may be right. however, when i installed the drivers for my ipod it didn't work so i just installed generic mass storage drivers instead and it worked fine. not sure if this would have any bearing. regarding the file formats, a lot of people plug their ipods straight in to the line in port on the back of their car stereos and it works. is there any reason why this stereo wouldn't recognise the ipod song format when others can?

Because at this point the Ipod would have converted the digital format (mp3, wav, wma etc etc....) to analogue audio... this is then simply amplified by the stereo unit.

The difference we are talking about here is if you want the stereo to read and understand the digital format (to for example display the track name)...even if the stereo can... it also needs to be able to recognise the storage device (for example the Ipod) and the filing system that it uses to store each track...

    Still it's worth a try...you never know! :)
