Recycling - whats the difference?

Before i go to put some garden rubbish in the compost bin, i forgot to say, what's wrong with Biffa making a profit, they are doing a job, providing a service, if you worked there you would expect to get paid would'nt you? Tesco make money out of selling baked beans, Bill Gates makes money out of computers. Biffa makes money out of getting
getting rid of empty bean cans, and old computers.A good cowboy always drinks upstream from the herd.
A good cowgirl always keeps her calves together.0 -
At times I really feel like "opting out " of the whole re-cycling farce !
There are glass mountains, paper mountains and stuff being shipped abroad purely to meet a number imposed on us by some failed Greek, Italian, Polish, politico on the Brussels gravy train.
I suppose it is not really fair to blame your local Council, they, in the main have contracted it out, so they don't have to bother with the stupidity of running it.
Talking about stupidity:- at my local "civic amenity site" you are told to remove the lids from plastic milk containers, etc and put them in a separate bin. In the supermarket car park - same council, same contractor - you are told: remove lid, squash container, replace lid !!!!0 -
I'm agreeing with oldone on this.
My little moan / question
If I have a busy day in the garden and fill my green recycling bin
THEN fill another container with green waste , why will the collectors only take one bin.????
Seems we can only recycle to very very strict rules.
Every time we read about people being fined for the 'wrong' rubbish in the wrong bin. Or the poor guy fined for leaving his bin lid open
Or if the bin is too heavy
Or if its not in exactly the right place
Makes you want to say  to it!
so why dont you put the extra waste out the back until its emptied0 -
so why dont you put the extra waste out the back until its emptied
But why cant they just take it ???
Ps they actually do
:D
We have a bunch of neighbours , any one who has too much ,just asks someone who has space in their bin.0 -
'council workers platinum pension schemes' LOL
Daily Mail reader by any chance?
Just a low portion of low pay funded out their own wages. Average £3800 is a million miles away from being 'platinum'.0 -

As it happens I read the Daily Telegraph, although I am not sure of the relevance of any of this. The term 'Platinum Pensions' was used by a relative whose job includes the administration of Local Authority pension schemes.0 -
I pretty much refuse blank to recycle unless there is a reduction in council tax bills.
What benefits do i see from spending my time flat packing boxes, seperating cans, glass, plastics, paper and laminated paper, and glossy paper, .... None. I understand the environment side of things, but there is no incentive for me to do so.
My car tax has just gone up, I have an economical car, I get cheaper car tax than most for this reason. Why do i not get cheaper council tax for not filling the bins up?
I also refuse to make a trip to the supermarket to recycle glass and plastics, because its not worth my time to stand in the cold and empty smelly plastic bags of beer cans and glass bottles.
Sorry to sound so negative, but i'm sure people can relate to my feelings.
*rant over*0 -
My local council operates a fortnightly collection of paper/card/board and plastics/cans. It takes no time at all to chuck things into the right boxes.
I keep a box for glass in the porch: when I go to the supermarket it takes just a few minutes to dispose of the bottles/jars.
If I had to separate glossy/laminated paper like flashy does, or travel to a recycling centre to get rid of tins/cans instead of having them collected, I might grumble but I'd still do it.0 -
I would guess the idea behind the councils making things difficult for us , is to make us think about how much we throw away and to make an effort to produce less waste .
Creating less waste is far more important then recyling0 -
Surely it should be the manufacturers who should be made to think about the amount of packaging thrown away.As a consumer I have no say in how a product I buy is packaged - so why should I suffer the consequences by having to expend my time, money, petrol and effort.Councils don't take on big companies as the poor tax payer is a far easier target for their bullying tactics.lesley1960 wrote: »I would guess the idea behind the councils making things difficult for us , is to make us think about how much we throw away and to make an effort to produce less waste .
