I have been using the Dragon NaturallySpeaking for a couple of years now and currently using version 10 which is exceptionally good. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the Vista version which will quickly demoralise you!

There is also an additional download through 'KnowBrainer' which will add a multitude of additional voice commands which is free should you qualify.

Words like 'Gewurztraminer ", 'haemorrhage' 'diarrhoea' and 'anti-disestablishmentarianism' just trip off the tongue! :T

My dictation here was practically 100% but failed on the word 'add' where it wrote 'had'...

Dictation isn't restricted to word processing neither as you can just as easily whizz round the Internet by voice command alone!

    Good luck

  • hi there stefos,

my son uses dragon naturally speaking. Excuse my ignorance but this 'knowbrainer' you were talking about - is this to do with dragon speaking?

He uses the software for writing his college essays but I have said that he should be able to use it for accessing the internet etc. You seem to be saying that it's easy to do this - could you point me in the right direction (can't find his manual at the moment!)

    Thanks

Dragon includes a set of commands designed specifically for use with web browsers such as Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox 2.x that enable you to surf the web by voice.

    Also :-

If you access the 'what is KnowBrainer' there is a link to fill in a form which offers the program for free for people with disabilities

    Hey folks,
great thread, thanks for starting it up. It will be invaluable to a disabled lady I look after, but the only thing is I can't find the program on vista? She has home basic, I have home premium and I can't find it on mine... Is there a difference between basic and premium?

Go to the control pannel, then theres an ption where the icon is an old style microphone - click that option. It's not very good though.
If my typing is pants or I seem partcuarly blunt, please excuse me, it physically hurts to type. :wall: If I seem a bit random and don't make a lot of sense, it may have something to do with the voice recognition software that I'm using!

That's my problem - i have no microphone! thats why i wondered if you're all using vista or not? and if it makes a difference if you have home basic or home premium?

    I'm using Vista home premium.

To be hnest though I wouldn't recommend using it - I said "once upon a time" after doing the training the computer to reconise your voice part 3 times and it typed "111111111111111"
