I signed up to plusnet in July, and I've been delighted with the product. Absolutely trouble free and for £14.99 a month brilliant value for money. I use it for what it was intended, (and sold to me as) email and websurfing, so I don't need to concern myself with limits.

I would recommend it for anyone who wants fast, reliable broadband at a reasonable price, but who isn't wanting to download all day every day. In all honesty, I think the average use will benefit from the 'acceptable use' policy.
  • Have been with Tiscwalli on dial up since Jan 05. They charged extra for Good Friday after stating it was included in the tariff and took months to give back credit (no refund) then charged extra for use Aug 15...as if they had classed it a B Hol!!! Again took forever to get sorted (credit; not refund). Never phone as further time and cost. But have referred matter to BBC consumer groups with every email. Not sure if this helps but the threat of bad publicity might irk...though could they get anymore? Current stasis re their stating which days they class as Bank Hol over Xmas/New Year. Since Xmas is on Sun should be w/e rate as 27th is Xmas BH....but silence from the Tiscwallies! Their site seems to HIDE vital info. Thing is that £5 a month Mon to Fri 8-6 use is ok by me as home those times....good deal ruined by incompetant billing/service.

You pay £5 per month for gross incompetence?

Shell out an extra tenner, (Just over 30p per day.) and you could have broadband with a reputable ISP,and not have to worry about what days you can and cannot use it.

I know what I would do.

  • Hi There

Sorry to be thick, but if I sign up to plusnet on the £14.99 service (acceptable usage allowed) do I assume right in that I should be OK for general internet usage so long as I'm not downloading many movies/songs etc?

I really need to get off dial up cos all the websites I use (apart from this one) seem to assume that everyone is now on Broadband and loading speeds for pages can go into many minutes.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks

The answer is yes. And any music or video downloads will only be throttled between 4pm and 8pm.
  • Having experienced the appalling Tiscali service, with speed restrictions and appalling service, ten days ago I applied to join Be* (www.bethere.co.uk)

Yesterday I received my Be*box and set it up today - I had a few technical issues setting it up and the call centre called me back twice to check everythingwas ok- was amazed! Well done!

And with a speed of 24mbs and stable, compared to Tiscali 2mbs max I really am over the moon. Okay, they cost a little more, but the service, speed and free of charge wireless modem have so far been fab! This is seriously fast broadband!!!

Just moved from onetel (£23.99 a month for 512k) to plus net.

Did everything i asked, hassle free transfer online, all happened on the day i did it. Upgraded to 2meg B'band now as well (Cost a one off £14.99 to upgrade the connection)

Now paying only £14.99 a month.

    Not a heavy user - just a normal family - 2 adults, 2 kids

If they are throttling back i haven't noticed through my normal use (anyway going from 512k to 2 meg doubt i'd notice if it were slower)

Couldn't recomend them more plus there online account management and tools is very useful

You'd notice alright, if you try downloading P2P between 4pm and 8pm it will slow down to worse than dialup. Otherwise outside of these times it's absolutely fine.

This is the autoreply that they never follow up from the complaints@ email address.

10 days? For months they didnt respond until OTELO told them to send me an apology/compensation/refund.
