barron wrote:What If They Use A Proxy?.
If you use a proxy, it will shield your home IP address from the sites you visit, but depending on the proxy, even this is tracable.
For posting on sites like this. Then a proxy would work. It requires court orders and needs to be very serious for an ISP/proxy to reveal user data. If you use a proxy, how can you be 100% sure that they wont work with the authorities? There are some dodgy proxies out there, and if you use them, they will have a record of every site you visit.
A quick overview (completely simple explaination) of using a proxy goes like this. You have your home connection. You connect to the net through your ISP. Your ISP will always know which sites you are using. You connect to a proxy. Your ISP will only see you are connected to the proxy address. All your requests for web pages go through the proxy, so instead of your ISP knowing all the pages you visit, the proxy site will. This is why proxies aren't 100% safe. How do you know that the proxy isn't being run by a government agency? You are now completely in the hands of the proxy owners as to wether they will co-operate with the police if you do something illegal while using their site. If they co-operate with the police, they can give your home IP address. This will give the police enough info to be able to trace exactly who you are.
As I said before. There are ways around this, but using proxies is not one of them. Proxies guard you to an extent, but you can't be 100% certain of anonymity. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

"Banned" would imply that people would not be able to read the forums. This never happens. In a tiny minority of cases we have to stop people posting, but they are still free to browse the forums.
This is always a last resort and we hate having to do it. As long as you don't intentionally break the rules, you have nothing to worry about!0 -
It was more a question of IF it can actually be done and how easy difficult it actually was ,since most who have/had been 'banned ' had actually returned ,but as I said earlier most just stop doing what they're doing anyway ,so won't get 'banned'........which is greatMSE_ForumTeam1 wrote:"Banned" would imply that people would not be able to read the forums. I'm not sure what you are referring to specifically, but if you report the posts in the normal way, we can take a look for you.
