    Thanks Dag,

Good question, I have no idea when the policy date is. Despite my posting on the 17th October I didn't receive a policy document, it was something asking me to register, ie give them all my card numbers that I want protecting etc. It is NOT a policy document. It is dated 9th October and arrived on the 17th, posted 2nd class. I phoned the number on the letter on the 17th and they told me it was too late to cancel and no refund was possible.

I still haven't heard from Citibank.

    Thanks for the help!

An update: I have received a letter from Citibank dated 21/10/08 acknowledging my complaint.

Their letter says nothing about the complaint itself. It gives me their address, lays out their timeline for dealing with complaints and gives me the address of the FLA (?) whom I may refer my complaint to at any point during the first eight weeks of my complaint.

Well as at 1/11/08 I have heard nothing more. I have paid a further £200 off my £700 debt, the sum of £70 & accruing interest remains on my account. I'll give them one more week and write to the FLA.

    Regards,

    Ian
  • I finally received a letter from Citibank dated 13/11/08.

"As a gesture of goodwill on this one occasion I have credited an amount of £70.00 to your account to compensate for the CPP transaction."

They also apologise for the inconvenience and the length of time they took to respond to me.

Needless to say they do not admit to being in the wrong, neither have they credited the interest that this £70 has already incurred (about £2.54 in a month). So they will still profit from this transaction. Personally I am not impressed and will now refer the matter to the Financial Service Ombudsman whom they have kindly sent me details about. I don't suppose it is worth my effort to write back to CitiFinancial Europe plc.

I hope this helps anybody else in the same situation.

  • This same transaction has appeared on my mothers Ulster Bank visa card bill - this is the only credit card she has - she has not applied online for any cards as she doesnt have a computer. Any idea how this happened - is Ulster Bank linked to Citibank
    Thanks for your time

    Hi,

Ulster Bank is part of the RBSG group (same logo as RBS gives it away!), and nothing to do with CitiBank.

However, CPP have "partnerships" with a very large number of banks, credit card companies etc, so it is probably not that surprising the same problem has occurred.

Get straight onto the Ulster Bank and dispute the transaction.

Sorry for bringing this very old thread back to life but reading through the forum I can see this applies to me (well my late mother actually)
Please bear with me as it's a bit complicated.
My mother has recently passed away & sorting through masses of paperwork I discovered a load of statements from Citi & CPP I even found a letter I typed on 10 Oct 2010 to citi asking why they were chasing her for insurance payments on a card which had in fact been cleared & the card cancelled in Oct 2009 ( I can't remember it but luckily she kept her copy) she had a reply dated 25 Oct 2010 saying one of their Customer Relations Advisors was looking into the complaint but sadly I can't find anything from them with the outcome, but there is a an envelope with a letter dated 2011 staitng that her account is now under Opus with a load of statements again asking for payment on a card that was never received/activated or used, there is also a letter from them dated April this year stating her account which had been been assigned to CC Asset Management has now been passed to 1st Credit (Finance) there are no letters whatsoever from either company. As yet I haven't contacted them as I'm still in a state of shock at finding all this & the fact Mom never mentioned she was receiving statements or letters....
Now CPP similair scenario loads of statements asking for payment for card preotection on .. a citi classic visa card, (does this mean she was paying twice!!!) on one of the renewal notices there is a note on top dated 07/08/10 with cancelled & the name Rosie in my writing (again I can't remember this) there are more statements dated after this so obviously they didn't do what was asked of them.
On Mom's last bank statement there is a CPP payment of £42.99 which was taken 3 days after her death I was puzzled as to why so I rang them asking for a refund & after sending a copy of her death certificate I have now received reimburment. Wish I'd found all this paperwork before then then I would really have let 'em have it.
My question is what can I do now that Mom has passed away (I'm executor of Mom's estate) to get any of this money back as I'm 100% sure Mom wouldn't have knowingly agreed to any of this insurance she wasn't 'money wise' & also partially deaf & suffered ill health so probably wouldn't have understood what was being asked when taking this on, she was a pensioner & if she had money worries or unable to pay her bills (which she didn't) she knew that me or one of my siblings would have helped her if she needed it.

CPP is mainly protection for when your cards are lost or stolen, not to cover for fraudulent use or to make repayments if you can't. It's not PPI.

If you lose all your cards, eg, if your bag or wallet is stolen, CPP will stop all the cards for you, saving you the hassle of making several phone calls.

Call CPP to discuss your mothers situation with them but as they've already refunded the latest payment, i can't see them refunding any more to be honest unless they have your cancellation details.

Since the premium for the policy was charged to the credit card, and it looks like your mother didn't pay off the credit card, I don't see what money there is to get back.

The debt collectors have a claim on the estate, but they might not pursue it.

Yes I understand that it wasn't PPI

The policy was cancelled when she had her bag stolen (bear in mind I didn't know she had this policy/insurance) I rang Lloyds bank to report that her credit & debit cards were in her purse, they put a stop on them & reimbursed the money she had stolen. Abbey/Santander were notified personally at the time, as her bag was stolen 10 minutes after leaving the branch, they immediately stopped her card. It was only later finding a statement that I discovered Mom had this insurance & when I rang CPP to cancel the policy as it wasn't needed as the bank had taken immediate action without any need for anyone else to be involved. Also I believe it only covereed the citi card as shown on the renewal letter which had been closed the previous year 2009.

They only refunded the last payment because she had died 3 days before the D/D went out of the bank.

I have their acknowledgment of the complaint letter I sent in 2010,

This is where I said it gets complicated & that I think she was being asked to pay twice. CPP took their premium by D/D hence me discovering the amount on her last bank statement

The premium wasn't charged to the citi credit card as it was closed in 2009 I have the statements showing the payment & a nil balance
"I even found a letter I typed on 10 Oct 2010 to citi asking why they were chasing her for insurance payments on a card which had in fact been cleared & the card cancelled in Oct 2009 "
In 2010 she suddenly started getting statements showing that they were requesting payment of a policy which shouldn't have existed as she no longer had the credit card (hence my letter of complaint) & wasn't sent an Opus card or if she did it was destroyed as she wouldn't have wanted it. I know there's no money to come back from them & she has no debt owing, how can she when she never used the card?
