Benefit help needed

I recently had to give up my job to look after my Mum who is dying of breast cancer, there is nobody else to help as I am an only child :(
I am claiming JSA, but have a mortgage and am receiving no help at all for this yet.
I have been severely depressed for many years and have been on a variety of anti depressants, i'm now on prozac, but it isn't working at all.I have worked all my life since I was 16 but am now at a really low ebb in every way, and am wondering about the possibilty of being able to claim incapacity benefit or sick benefit, i'm not sure what it's called:confused::confused: My doc will probably support me as i've been on anti depressants since 1998 and she knows of the bad situation with my Mum at the moment. I'm not sure of how long she has left it could be months yet, and I don't know how much longer I can cope.
Any help would be appreciated as I am literally at rock bottom:(

Yes you can claim Incapacity Benefit, to start the claim you need to get a sick note from your Doctor and contact Jobcentre Plus. It may be worth doing this before the 27th October as then new claims have to be for a new benefit called the Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) which will be harder to get especially for those with mental health problems.

If you are having difficulty caring for your Mum it may be worth contacting Social Services to see if you can get some help.

I am a bit confused now because on another thread you have said that you have a younger Brother, youre Mum has MS and that you are helping youre Dad care for her. Was that a different person?

No that was me, I do have a brother but in caring for my Mum I am an only child as he doesn't care.If you look at my other thread the pregnant sister is in fact my best friend. In both cases the facts are the same but I have changed minor details to avoid being recognised as my bro's gf reads this forum:o :o
    Thanks for your help though:o

Unfortunately you don't necessarily become eligible for IB because you're caring for your mother, the criteria are completely separate. At the moment you don't sound as if you're eligible for JSA either.

I read it that she is wanting to claim incapacity cos of the depression.Think the mums illness is in addition to how her mental state is at the mo.I could be wrong though :o

I'd seriously question that, but she's certainly claiming JSA under false pretenses as she's not actively seeking work or available for it.

So your Mum has MS as well?

Also I have just realised you said your Dad was dead and now you have deleted it. I think it was pretty sick to say that and then strange to delete it whatever youre problems.

Does your mother claim DLA under the special rules? You could then possibly claim carers allowance.
