Don't forget that you can't plot the cost of oil directly against petrol at the pump.

One of the factors is that we buy oil in USdollars - and the exchange rate has been sliding the wrong way on this for the last couple of months.

A year ago you could almost get $2 for £1. Now it's more like $1.70.

there are two petrol stations in my town, less than a mile apart...

one is 102.9p for unleaded, the other is 95.9p.

It is probably a good idea to shop around with so much change going on in the price of fuel just now.

and most oil is bought on the futures market which means that the price of oil today, is the price that the oil used for the petrol in our forecourts in a few months time will have cost.

i get an extra 20 miles ot a tank using 'branded' fuel rather than supermarket fuel. Our local Esso is usually no more than a penny or two astray from our nearest asda so it works out to be cheaper. sometimes the esso is cheaper per litre... like now, its 95.9p vs asda 101.9p

when im sober enough to drive your car i regularly fill it up with tesco fuel,when ever aldi or lidl open a petrol station i will use them aswell.:p

I am not sure about you touching my mechanics .......... let alone filling it with inferior substances..
