Mobitix with Virgin trains

• Hi,

After some research, it appears that some old Nokia phones work with Mobitix. I have no idea why this is. I also don't know if it only works on certain networks. One friend registered her mobile phone number with Mobitix before they removed the Print@Home facility and after some initial problems, successfully received tickets on a Nokia 7370 on O2. Another friend has successfully received tickets on a Nokia N95. I don't know if they registered prior to the Print@Home facility being removed and I don't know which network they used. On the Moneysavingexpert forum, someone has been able to receive tickets on a Nokia 6220.

I know the following phones don't work:

T-Mobile's Vario II MDA (18 months old)
O2's Motorola V3i (18 months old)
O2's V600 (very old)
Nokia N96 (quite new)

Regarding the Vario II MDA and Motorola V3i, I contacted the respective company's and had them check the phone settings. Both were fine and were WAP and MMS enabled and activated. The conclusion was that there was a problem with the Mobitix web site itself. I'm no techie but perhaps that's why the site is frequently busy?

How about forum users adding to the list of mobile phones and networks that work and don't work? At least until the problem is resolved?

I am having the same problem. I have a Nokia e61 and the website refuses to send me a text, comes up with error code 19 or something like that. It then say 'don't worry, you can still use p@h' but doesn't provide a link to do so. I really need to book some tickets and cannot understand why Virgin would wish to enforce a system that is losing them money.

I give up, finally get a text message through from the trainline to both the e61 and a k800i and I get a garbled database error. If I paste the address into Opera Mini I get a message saying my e61 isn't compatible with the service. So I guess that's what the garbled message is on the k800i too. Which is daft as it's a really common phone. I suspect the trainline cannot cope with 3G connections.
• I have now wasted the next 4 months savings on train fares, in time and effort, not to mention phone calls to lots of virgin and trainline numbers tyring to establish why my Nokia 6233 receives the same message as others are receiving.
System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. At Mtix.MMT.MTixMMTWebService.capabilityCheck(String MobileNumber, String pstrUserAgent)
I understand that there is a list of non-compatible phones on the trainline website but I cannot find it.
Their 'technical experts' say that this message is associated with not having a 'high quality picture messenging service' and that my phone must be non-compatible.
No one at Nokia or my service provider agrees.
Does anyone else have a 6233 that works with this service or have you accessed the non-compat list and is the 6233 on it?
I have ensured that teh phone is MMS and WAP enabled during this process, so there shouldnt be an issue.
Any help gratefully received
• I have tried registering my phone with this mobitix nonsense, not been successful at all, I have used 02, Vodafone and Orange networks, as well as different make phones....no luck!

called my network providers and Virgin Customer support in India, after wasting 26 pounds on 0800 numbers, STILL NO LUCK!!!!! Virgin and trainline.com if you want environmentally friendly people to use public transport and not to drive increasing the CO2 carbon foot print, than when you are adobting new technologies make sure it can be widely used, not just with certain phones, bring back e ticket!!!!
• I mangaed to successfully register a SONY ERICSSON w810i on Orange with the Virgin Train Mobitix System. Anyone else had success with other phones? Got this reply from Virgin-Support when I asked for a compatible list or non-compatible list:-

Dear Vic,
Thank you for your email regarding booking tickets.
We do have a list of handsets that are compatible to book tickets.
If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate in contacting us.
Kind regards
Rhea

Agggghhhhh! Well GIVE ME THE LIST!!!!!

I'm currently using TWO SIMS on the same phone both registered and working. Therefore mister ticket collector will have to wait for me to change SIMS on the train. Or the other trick is to save the MAN_EUS.DCF to your Phone Memory or MemStick. Therefore you in theory will be able to use the ONE SIM to display the FOUR tickets for 2 people to the nice ticket collector. Remember this nonsense is NOT their fault!

Bring back the Print@Home and have it setup to print at least four tickets on one sheet of A4 Outward - Return x 2 for 2 Passengers.

• Hi Vic
You are very lucky to have completed the Mobitix registration. I have tried everything , 5 different phone all with WAP capability but no luck. I tried their customer support number 0870 101 1127 (options 3 then 5), but they have one simple answer to any query that you phone is not compatible. I did not even received the test SMS on any of the phones.

Could you please suggest something and could you please also tell me the virgin email address for Mobitix Support. Thanks
Zee Bash
• This is the first time (well 2nd ,cos I don't know where my 1st message went) that I've been so annoyed as to vent my anger in a forum.
How on earth are 2 old fogies with limited funds supposed to get these cheap tickets now? I used to use this Manchester to London cheap ticket site a lot, visiting our grandchildren...printed out my e-ticket, no problem. So much for Virgin customer service. If you happen to be a wizz kid with all the latest technology at your fingertips you'd still struggle to get these tickets sent to your mobiles. As for us, we've no chance. We're now having to make the journey by car...and heaven help us & other unsuspecting motorists...it's been a while since we dusted off the Morris Minor.

Perhaps this thread should be sent to the Ministry for Transport for a reality check. What an utter piece of chaotic failure this system is. And on the back of promises to 'simplify rail fares' as well. Plus, in a recession the last thing ordinary hard-up people need is to see their cash disappear into the black hole of Virgin nonsense.
Bring back British Rail:rolleyes:

Anyone get this trying to get onto the site
The Web server you are attempting to reach has a list of IP addresses that are not allowed to access the Web site, and the IP address of your browsing computer is on this list.

Does that mean I'm special?
